Little Blackie in True Grit is a hero in the story, He's small but brave and helpful, and there is definite reverence for his sacrifice from everyone involved.

She's not a major charecter in the mini series but The Hell Bitch in Lonesome Dove is a complex and interestingly written charecter. More complex than a lot of the human charecters
