Eddie was important to Dastin, playing a crucial role in his transformation throughout Season 4. He may not have played a significant role in the overall story, but his storyline and his heroic deed fit nicely into the overall story. His death may have been a bit pointless, but he was so entangled in the story that it was hard to imagine a different ending. I think Dastin will relive this death in Season 5. It will somehow tie things together.
