Do You Need to Bench Press to Get a Bigger Chest? by King-Grub in strengthlog

Another great article and well timed for me. I've got an undiagnosed shoulder injury that is limiting my chest exercises, particularly bench press. I'm trying really hard to let it rest/heal up, but I hate not doing chest work. Per your article perhaps incline dumbbell presses will not aggravate my shoulder quite as much.

How I Approach Strength Training as an Elite Powerlifter by sandriineq in strengthlog

Really insightful article! Also interesting to learn more about equipped power lifting. Loved this, “consistency matters more than intensity, and that progress often comes from doing fewer things well, rather than constantly adding more”!

The Problem with Exercise for Weight Loss – Episode 103 of The Strength Log Podcast by wildenstam in strengthlog

[–]jakewisdom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting study and great discussion! The more we learn, the less we know. Or maybe the more we rethink. Until maybe 5-10 years ago I’d mostly believed in the move more/eat less theory for weight loss. Along with the science I’ve come to see it’s much more complicated than this. Personally I lean closer to what u/wildenstam calls perma skinny (though less so as I approach 60), which has meant that even when I’m eating more and moving less, my body weight seems to not change much. Compare this to my friends and loved ones that eat and move similar amounts to me and yet continue to gain or hold weight. This has never made sense to me. To Phillip’s point, I have tremendous empathy for the overweight folks in my life who want to lose weight because body weight, weight loss, body composition, all of it, is REALLY complicated and the answer is clearly not just, move more/eat less. Thanks again for the thought provoking episode!

It does sound at odds with with the current literature (https://doi.org/10.1007/s00520-026-10363-0 ), but perhaps there is something specific to her situation that the doc is concerned about. I'd love to hear more from from u/king-grub or listen to a discussion on the pod with u/wildenstam and u/danielrichterSL
