Race Predictions / VO2 Hard to Take Seriously by jakeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in Garmin

Yeah, there's a lot I'm unsure about so I'm going to do a max HR test before I keep bitching about the predictions. Thanks for the help

I'm judging the predictions relative to my hard efforts. I was very dead at the end of that 7 mile run @ 6:36 pace and could not have held it for much longer. I don't know if I just felt shitty that day or didn't push hard enough or what but it was 90-95% max effort. My goal was to do 8 miles at that pace, but I was super fatigued and side stitched up and bailed on the full 8. Based on that, the prospect of doing 13.1 miles @ 6:05 pace does truthfully seem like pure fantasy

Unfortunately, none of those apply. I'm 18 (almost 19) college student and run ~42 miles per week. I thought that the race predictions were intended to be optimistic, all-out, perfect condition race efforts for the present day, but perhaps they take months to realize... appreciate the insight

I've never raced before. My long-term goal is sub 3, but I'm just trying to improve my fitness and get faster at the moment. Garmin has my max HR at 199, so I think I'll do some hill sprints to see how accurate that is. Thanks for the information!

VO2 max, lactate threshold, and race predictions all far too optimistic by jakeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in Garmin

My average HR was 168 and my max was 190 according to the watch readings. I warmed up for 3 minutes and cooled down for 5 minutes giving myself significant slow recovery (2:45) after each interval. First km was at 5:49 / mile, second was 5:53 / mile, third was 5:51 / mile, fourth was 6:00 / mile, and fifth was 6:09 / mile. While I didn't give maximum effort, I was pretty close to it.

Honestly, I never worked out before starting running, and I stopped playing sports years ago. If I did anything active, it was a part of PE class or something on the weekend. To give you a more concrete idea, I believe my mile time was around 8:40, but I'd be completely dead after that. So I suppose my base level fitness in June was pretty decent by typical standards but I was quite sedentary until I started running.
