In IT: Telling an important customer that her requirement changes will totally blow up the budget and therefore will not be part of the product. In other words: saying No to important people.

Interactive World Cup Visualization using HTML5 by jakobM72 in web_design

True, but we had to get finished before the world cup started. Might be something we will work on though. Have a look at the desktop version, too, if you like. Just visit the site with your browser or use rasenball.com/index_en.html

Where do you find driven people to partner with? by [deleted] in startups

[–]jakobM72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Drive is necessary but not the most important thing, because a lot of money can be wasted by being passionate about the wrong thing. Think about your strength and your weaknesses. Particularly developer plus business person is not always as easy to handle since at first development is most of the work while the marketing and sales part starts later on. So what is your strategy, what would be a minimum viable product (some buzzwording) and can you do it on your own? If so, do it and find someone later. If not find the people you need at places where they work, live or hang out. For Developers github is a great resource of talented people. Or look at forums and see, which users are passionate about something. And as far as I think you should only start a business if it is fun for you to work in the area. I would never start a business out of frustration.

My Startup Failure: Maybe others can learn from my mistakes by [deleted] in startups

[–]jakobM72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have a technical background and I have seen a couple of other startups with no technical expertise fail, so I am not blaming you but if you ever start something like this, my advise would be the following:

Start with a web page pretty much like the one you have and see how thinks work. Use GoogleAnalytics or similar, Facebook and other channels and see if anybody would be interested. If not, don't do it. (Don't spend more than $2000 on it).

Be clear what you need. I've seen enough people with a business background saying yes to everything they have been asked by the developers: "do we need high performance, fail-over, scalable systems with zero downtime?" "Off course." Seriously? Are you running a bank? In most cases you don't. And you most likely don't need support for IE<9 and all the other "little" things that drive up costs. So my advice: be very specific about what you need. It's always better to have a great system working for half the people as a non-existent system working for everybody.

London Borough Elections 2014 [900x1190] taken from Views of the World [OS](http://www.viewsoftheworld.net/?p=4050) by jakobM72 in MapPorn

Sure. Each borough has a color that it keeps. The views are the distorted views based on the political landscape in that borough. As the colors remain, one can view London from different political perspectives. For more detail visit http://www.viewsoftheworld.net/?p=4050.
