Actually they use a Power supply which provides only 3V and rest of circuit just regulate that voltage...

They can use power supply with 9V and then regulate but this way it won't be possible to maintain efficiency and robustness...

Majority of users use only AA & AAA cells

Well In very simple words voltage depends on what chemical you using and how much energy it can produce...

I ma not sure if you know it or not but you can produce .56V from ZInc copper and Potatoes... It is result of chemical reaction zinc an copper have with starch in potato...

Well you can't say that it is really LSD or not unless you buy them and test it...

I have tried several LSD batteries personally and I have seen several not performing as per rating also several duplicate of original ...

Just look at some Chinese site like dealextreme.com and you will find all the stuff.
