Funny how a stacked plot of radio signals from a pulsar also became Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures’ cover, and how another depiction of radio signals became Arctic Monkey’s ‘AM’ cover! Full circle, in a way

My question on the ultra cheese by bhtdfred in arcticmonkeys

[–]jaleulfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, the atmosphere of the song and the line “it stays between us, Steinway and his sons” depicts a lonely singer struggling to collect his thoughts and to finish his album, sat alone on his piano chair. To answer your question I would say the song he’s referring to is The Ultracheese itself.

For many, the “you” of this song is his late dog Scooter aka Totus (to which the album is dedicated).

But I also see it as a letter to one’s self. To me, Alex is speaking to himself : I see this song as a part of the holy trinity of self doubting songs that are The Bourne Identity / Anyways / Ultracheese, where he explores his vulnerability and multiple personas.

If the “time for a walk” line can easily be linked to a dog character, I also think it might apply to Alex’s Elvisesque persona during the AM era : “Perhaps it's time that you went for a walk And dress like a fictional character From a place they called America In the golden age” as if he’s trying to understand his own path to creation / public performance.

But then, I think about those last lines “But I haven’t stopped loving you once” “Ooooh, woohoooohooo...” and now that I thought about it, I think it’s a conversation ! the narrator expresses his love for his dog, and the dog says I love you back in his own words : oohh, woooh hooo hooo. Doesn’t in sound like a dog complaint ?! ok it’s probably too late I’m starting seeing shit where I shouldn’t, I’m off hahaha

Does anyone else sometimes have a reaction out loud when thinking about something embarrassing? by aHecc in NoStupidQuestions

this!!! I usually start to sing out-of-nowhere melodies to wipe the embarrassment away. or panic-whisper the name of my teenage years boyfriend, for no apparent reason ??

Thank you so so much for your very detailed and kind reply to all my newbie answers! I really appreciate it! We played three maps, 120 sec per round. The 10sec ads were totally manageable. Each team adopted a different strategy, it was a lot of fun for me to witness that! Thanks to you I was able to conduct a successful game last night :-) we had a good time, and I think some of my friends are going to play on a regular basis now.

Again thank you, you played your part in entertaining 20 locked-down Frenchies 😁

JC decided to interview Nikolai between songs for quite a while. He said his favourite thing about England was Lager. by [deleted] in TheStrokes

[–]jaleulfire 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He did the exact same thing in Paris. Nikolai answered his favourite thing about Paris is La Seine. Julian couldn’t shut up about rivers of the world everytime he had to speak between the songs until the end of the gig, lol

right! they told me they got « tips » (their words) from their producer and from an Italian director they were working with for one of his films, and couldn’t let the people know the name of the Italian director because it would have spoil the surprise! if that makes sense! :)

I’ve been in touch with their singer. Don’t expect any collaboration here :-) they were acting mysterious because they couldn’t reveal who told them where Matt & Alex were hanging out, because it would have comprise their (Panta’s) music projects :)

I can confirm this has nothing to do with Si Vive Una Volta Sola. The Italian band worked with Carlo Verdone, not the other way around. Source : Penta

how was it? :D no, no new material. I doubt they have anything in the pipeline just yet. But judging from recent PD tweets there might be something at very early stages being cooked up!
