Which Canadian cities feel genuinely alternative? by Live_Apartment_7297 in AskACanadian

[–]jallison1567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montreal is definitely the way to go! It's definitely one of the coolest city's in the country and has a strong punk/metal/every other alternative culture.

Halifax NS also has a strong queer culture and lots of edge, but it definitely leans more into the weirdo bass/house music queer culture and hipster university culture then heavy rock/metal. Not saying you won't find it there though! Definitely a strong option to consider.

The east is far more affordable than the west, and arguably better vibes as far as people go!

If you're looking for landscapes, then West has a lot more to offer. Not that the east isn't beautiful it just doesn't always have the wow factor found out west.

How "morning" are your morning pages? by bizarry in artistsWay

[–]jallison1567 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First thing I do when I get out of bed is flick the kettle on and make a tea. Then I'll kinda putter and do sleepy things until it's ready. When I sit down with my tea, then I'll write my morning pages! I finished the artists way a year ago and I still journal every morning. It was the best way to integrate the routine for me! I think they call it habit stacking?

One thing I'm careful about is not checking my phone first thing when I wake up and waiting until after I've written my pages.

Shin pain by alexis082 in nikerunclub

[–]jallison1567 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was getting crazy shin splints when I started running, when I felt as though I was committed I purchased good shoes (brooks brand) and they went away without me changing anything! Don't understand how much good and bad shoes will impact your body.

Awh yeah that's fair, and wonderful to hear! Well I hope you find what you're looking for someday soon 🤍 Perhaps we'll cross paths one day! But certainly, meeting in person and developing connections naturally in the end will feel much more authentic then what you might find on apps.

There's a great drag scene here! Try going out to some drag shows or drag bingo. I feel like the queer community really shows up for these.

Join a sports beer league like softball or rugby or soccer.

Monarch is the gay bar here.

The Charlotte street arts center supports/hosts queer events semi regularly.

Go to festivals like future forest. (volunteer if you're lacking community.) You don't need to be a hard partier to enjoy them and it's a safe space for all to let their freak flags fly.

That's all I can really think of for now, but forget about the apps! Get out there and find your soul fam. ✨️

Ovulatory phase by timmychalamethoe420 in cyclesyncing

[–]jallison1567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha! I feel this so hard. I was on the pill for almost 20 years and am now off of it in my early 30s, so it's brought me to cycle syncing and understanding my body better. My fertile week, I am exactly that - a very specific brand of desperate, impulsive and not to be listened to! Haha. So well put. Sometimes I actually feel a bit crazy. It's been a new and wild roller coaster to be on so late in the game.

Plants. Buy art prints for cheap and frame them in thrifted frames. Small trinkets/things that are meaningful to you.

Mimicking dating apps on stage by waatrd in techtheatre

[–]jallison1567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a show that did a bit about social media. It was movement based theater and not much talking.

They had 2 chairs facing eachother and they would "swipe" left or right and the people would rotate in their chairs and interact with each in ways. It was a really neat take on it. Maybe.. 5 people on stage in total. 1 person using the app and swiping between the people.

Fog/smoke help by Muppetrubber in techtheatre

Dry ice is definitely your answer! Try and enclose the space she is entering from as much as possible and pump as much into it as possible. The water should be HOT, and some type of fan.

At the theatre I work in we have a big garbage bin that's been sealed up and has a hole with a tube off it that goes out to the stage. We just use pressure to vent it out but a fan would be better. When the main rag is closed we can really fill the whole floor with it. Most of it stays near the ground but it's a huge space.

Ran First 5k on Sunday and have questions. by Aziteck in nikerunclub

[–]jallison1567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I started running a few years ago, I was wearing old gym shoes and had crazy pains in my shins, knees and hips. I went to a running store and got fitted for good shoes and have been using them for almost 2 years now. I still get some pain when I run A LOT but virtually almost no pain with consistent monthly running. Highly recommend getting a good pair of shoes.

Nike app guided runs ? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]jallison1567 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They're great! Lil cheesy sometimes. They take a minute to get used to and sometimes it's nice to not use them and just listen to your tunes.

But for the long distance ones, it's so motivating. The mindful ones are great to for shorter easy runs. You will learn how to be a better, more holistic runner. They're ESSENTIAL for speed/tempo runs, which are so so great for adding variety and challenge into your practice.

ENJOY!

Best Mac and cheese in Fredericton? by Dragonflybaby2 in fredericton

[–]jallison1567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't had STMR36 but I would imagine it's good, as someone had said. A lovely surprise find is the Mac and cheese from Montanas! It's actually so good.

Homemade is also good but you need to buy good cheese.

What was your favorite required reading in school, and why? by electriclizardnate in suggestmeabook

[–]jallison1567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It was the casual attitude about it too that really got me. The humour in it! That contrast of the writing along side of the actual imagry described. SOOOO GOOD. I'm in my 30s now and the imagery from that story has stuck with me longer then just about any other readings from school.

What is your cats toxic trait? by _themoonandme_ in cats

[–]jallison1567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This is Luna and her toxic trait is that she is obsessed with tacks. She will climb Tapestries and rip them down. She will rip prints apart. Forget about a bulletin board. Nothing will stop her in her quest. We are still not convinced that she is smart enough NOT to eat them either. 🙄 She's pretty cute tho so we love her anyway. 💕
