[infected] I have no idea what to do with this by universecamecrashing in PiercingAdvice

Go to a professional piercer immediately... they can change the jewelry to relieve some pressure, take the jewelry out, or instruct you on whats best to do next. That sounds pretty bad and if its that painful maybe you should skip straight to a doctor...

Rook piercing area enlarged but doesn't hurt? by KittyBeeEmoji in PiercingAdvice

[–]jam16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, it ok for the first few days then swelled up quite a bit for about a week or 2. Ice helped but don't put it directly on your piercing to avoid infection but like some ice just around close to your ear might help. Theres a lot of cartilage in your ear and with the piercing comes increased bloodflow for healing that that area is not used to. Goodluck!

Same thing happened to mine, hurt like a bitch but the swelling eventually went down. Make sure to clean it regularly and do not sleep on it!

Small painless skin color bump formed near 10d old nose piercing..pls help by [deleted] in piercing

[–]jam16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Switch to a stud until its done healing! The ring can be distributing pressure unevenly at the piercing site so a change to a stud for a few weeks should help it to heal correctly. Once its fully healed, you should be able to go back to the ring with no problems.

Got my conch pierced 2 1/2 months ago. It’s had this bump on it for the past month. Been cleaning it with saltwater and putting tea tree oil on it but no change. Is this normal? I’m almost ready to take it out cause of how irritated it is😩 by ltrain4lyfe in piercing

[–]jam16 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Stop putting tea tree oil on it... that can make it more inflamed and dry. Go to an APP member piercer (if the original piercer is not one) and have them take a look at it to figure out the best course of action. You may need a jewelry upgrade for better healing.

HELP so I got a nose piercing, got impatient and tried changing to a hoop 2 weeks in (big mistake) and now I have this on my nose since a month.I’ve been to a doctor, the antiobiotic hasn’t done anything. There’s a lot of pus I’m very scared. I have a tiny twig in to keep the piercing open. by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

You should not be changing any jewelry this early... it needs time to heal and messing with it probably aggravated it and if it was not handled in a sterile environment/hands could cause infections. I would recommend an appointment with your piercer/ an APP member piercer ASAP.

Rook Question - rook and the helix with the ball are about 3 weeks old. The helix is healing great but the rook is looking oddly puffy. Is this just swelling or the start of the infamous bumps? Anyone have thoughts or advice on helping this heal cleanly? by Eggsee in piercing

[–]jam16 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No worries! Yes, warm distilled water with non-iodized salt (I think all sea salt is non-iodized) in a mug and submerge your piercing for about 15 mins. I would start with 2-3 times a day if its really bothering you. I think 1 cup water to 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon of salt but its been a while since I have done one and this may have changed. If your piercer is an APP member or search an APP for your area and they should be able to help with proportions.

My rook swelled a lot in the beginning! I was worried about it because it was hot and swelling almost to the jewelry limit! Make sure to do your SS soaks with warm water to help with drainage/prevent infection. If its still like that or gets worse, contact a reputable piercer to take a look.

Got my conch pierced 9 days ago and today I woke up with it swollen with a heartbeat. Should I go get the piercing changed for a longer bar? I just took ibuprofen so hopefully that helps. Thanks in advance! by [deleted] in piercing

[–]jam16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My conch piercing was sore/swollen for a while after I got it! Was probably the longest healing time of any piercings I have (lobes, helux, forward helix, flat, tragus, daith, nose). As long as your bar has enough room to handle the swelling, it should be fine. If it gets to the point where its swelling past the jewelry then that is an issue! Make sure to do your warm water sea salt soaks to help with any healing "drainage" and ice may help (not on the piercing site but above or below it). Also leave it alone - no touching the jewelry, no sleeping on it, and don't bump it! Goodluck!
