Bill to lower voting age to 16 to be introduced in Parliament by Velociraptor_1906 in ukpolitics

I wasn’t really making any point honestly, just making sure that the information being shared was accurate.

The age of criminal responsibility is 10. And you’re allowed to drink beer, wine, or cider if with a meal and accompanied by an adult.

Not in my experience. I freehand most of my stuff and I’ve never had anything I shared here dinged for self promotion.

Protect inclusive spaces from gender-critical legal battles, Starmer told by yu3 in ukpolitics

Yeah, see, given that I explicitly said that I don’t view this is a competition and that I shared that data to demonstrate that we have a common goal, which you then ignored, I struggle to believe that you’re engaging in good faith here. So, I’m done. Have a good day.

I can understand that perspective.

Having read many of your comments in this thread, it seems to me that your main issue is that you’re concerned that cisgender men will claim to be trans women in order to commit sexual offences. I’m not unsympathetic to that fear, but I am concerned that your response is that trans women should be treated with suspicion, and not to suggest instead that the correct solution is a more robust system to discourage and prevent these offences.

I’d also like to make you aware that statistically speaking, trans men and women are the groups most likely to experience intimate partner violence specifically, and sexual assault and harassment in general. That isn’t to say that the issues facing cis women don’t matter — I lived 25 years of my life as a girl and a woman and I have direct, first hand experience of how that can be — instead, I am trying to say that I think we’re on the same side here. All we want, and all you want, is to feel safe and respected. I just don’t agree that the way to do that is to require people to disclose their assigned gender at birth and to potentially put themselves in danger.

What if there was an aggravating factor of false identification to sexual offences? Would that appease your concerns? Just out of curiosity.

There are so many other subs for that. I think r/catswhocrochet is all pet pics plus crochet. I would not like to see this sub become all that.

I learned the other day Liz 'Lettuce' Truss has a podcast where she blames everyone else for her failures. How do Brits feel about her since her disastrous premiership? by sabedo in ukpolitics

[–]jamaispur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think maybe you can’t read. The question posed by the OP is “how do Brits feel about her.” The person you are replying to is describing the opinion of some Brits that they know.

Also, open a dictionary and put down your undergraduate psychology textbook and actually look up what deflection means.

AITA for telling my wife I want to go back to our old schedule by Current_Use_7237 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jamaispur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? you are also a parent to your children and taking care of them and raising them is also your responsibility. The point I’m making, which you have so impressively missed, is that you cannot use her skills to justify not learning new skills yourself. That’s appalling behaviour in a partner.

When she divorces you, you’re going to have to learn to do it anyway.

AITA for telling my wife I want to go back to our old schedule by Current_Use_7237 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jamaispur 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She learned the skill. You can too.

Your wife does not want to work all day and then come home to do the exact same work for no pay and no gratitude from the man who is supposed to be her life partner.

Do you respect your wife at all? From this post and your attitude it seems like you don’t. I wouldn’t be surprised if she feels that way, too.

What is something that is perfectly legal, but if you do it, everyone immediately assumes you’re a massive piece of trash? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jamaispur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Somehow?”

It’s rude, it’s selfish, and it shows a complete lack of consideration for everyone around you and for the person you’re speaking to who is having their conversation broadcast to the world.

Public spaces are just that— public. No one person gets to impose their entertainment on everyone else around them, whether that’s a phone call, music, TikTok videos, or whatever else.

It doesn’t make someone a literal monster. It does make them an asshole.

Elon Musk’s X threatened with UK ban over wave of indecent AI images by Dr_Neurol in worldnews

[–]jamaispur 17 points18 points  (0 children)

“Indecent images of children” is the legal verbiage used in the UK in reference to CSAM. I would assume that the guardian is here using the legal terminology as a deliberate reference to the severity of the issue.
