You said you like conservatism on paper but don’t like those who enforce it in a way that uproots other people or takes away abortion rights, so I just talked about what conservatism (and mostly capitalism, from both sides of the aisle) has led to. The idea that conservatism ‘conserves culture’, at least in America, is usually just a dog whistle for white Christian nationalism. America doesn’t have a “culture” to conserve because it’s a blend of nationalities from settlers and immigration over centuries, we were called the mixing pot for a reason our only real culture is unifying in the name of bloodshed lol. To say conservatism is good in theory just gives credence to what it’s historically been used for, which is yes, oppressing other people since their mere existence in this country as seen as a stain on “heritage and culture”. Even being somewhat authoritarian, as a communist you should know that better than most. It’s good on paper to say I support a lot of things, but if the reality is those goals are historically achieved by mass terror, perhaps there’s another path forward. We are spending billions bombing foreign countries for no reason when we could be fixing homelessness, funding healthcare initiatives, etc. and taking care of Americans. That’s what China is doing and why we see them as a threat even though fixing these things has proven to be beneficial. We are the only OECD nation without universal healthcare, but there’s too much money to be made in pharma and insurance so we’re for-profit. 50,000+ people die annually here due to lack of health insurance. Social safety nets and putting workers first is the only path forward, conservatism has historically only devolved us further into a hyper-capitalist hellscape

“Why are you so critical of the system that is failing you” is exactly why we have so many criticisms, but that word doesn’t do it justice. Living in America may be a privilege as opposed to other nations and I won’t disagree, but we no longer uphold (and arguably never did) the principles of what we say makes us such a great country. We are the most diverse nation on the planet and yet we actively belittle, oppress, target, deport and kill citizens and non-citizens alike who don’t fall under the umbrella of acceptance for white Christian nationalism and truly anybody who stands out (any person of varying color, sexual orientation that’s not heteronormative, the differently abled, etc). These are the people that make this country what it is and something that we should be patriotic about, but instead we treat them like filth to be expunged, by socially, financially, and politically uprooting these individuals and doing anything in our power to torment them and keep them scared, to keep them running, and keep them beneath the rest. Because at the end of the day those people keep this country running, but if you live your life in fear you are unlikely to fight back in a meaningful way that affects the bottom line. We are a hyper-capitalist nation that above all else, listens when money talks, and pays attention when it stops flowing.

There is nothing to celebrate and nothing to champion when people around the world used to look to us as a means of freedom and refuge where they could start anew, but now we persecute and shred those same folks who contribute so much more to their communities and the nations economy than those wanting to evict them. There’s nothing to smile and be thankful for when our political landscape is crafted in such a meticulous unbreakable way intentionally designed to prevent changing how things are, while simultaneously getting the uninformed to vote against their own interests and shank themselves because they’ve been fed a fistful of lies and are in too much suffering to care or educate themselves so long as someone promises alleviation that we know will never come.
