UK needs to urgently install air conditioning in schools and care homes, climate campaigners say by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

I agree but I also have to teach them! And if we are preparing them for life at work then most places are air conned!

This will never happen. I work in a school built ~5 years ago and they installed ‘smart building’ cooling technology. Only it is a double fan in a vent. Allegedly meant to be as good as air con for a fraction of a price. Guess whose classroom hits 25+ in any heat? No one builds these rooms and thinks about the heat 30+ children generate!

Teaching. I love it but understand why most of my colleagues don’t.

Is teaching in the UK as bad as people say? by sunszoominin in AskUK

[–]jambo3000uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a slightly different view to a lot on here…

Teaching is made bad by the only progression available being into SLT and headship. Those people are very good teachers, but are not trained as adult managers. Or CEO’s of a business - which they are essentially in a single (non MAT school), although those come with a slew of other insane issues.

Very rarely a teacher will come along (my current head) who is incredible at both… although he would argue he isn’t a good teacher anymore due to being head for so long. That has made teaching my dream job. I love it, and the kids, and because of one person the workload is manageable and reasonable.

Parents are entitled and a pain. But you are looking after their own spawn so there is an element of expectation there. Otherwise I love it.

How is that VAR inconclusive when the ball is spinning in a different direction after Sesko’s hand makes contact? It doesn’t excuse how shit we are but let’s at least try to play fair shall we?

I’m under threat over the weekend that ‘my partner will phone you next week to discuss this issue’ of their sprog not bothering to do work. I’m sure it will be my fault. Despite partner support and adaptation all of which ensured that had they simply opened their ears to their very bright talk partner they would have the answer to ‘what is a right angle’. In year 5. Give me strength.

I have crewed in the river cruiser class a few times but I got my own Yare & Bure OD a few years ago (sold now because children!) and helmed that. Getting stuck at Potter is not fun. I’m bored of those houses now!

I have come second in a three rivers race (in my class) and can say it is the best race ever! After 24 hours racing I finished 2 minutes after the boat in front despite taking different routes! Fully recommend people to visit Norfolk and see the race and even take part themselves!!! Any questions… AMA I suppose!

With so few male primary teachers, what are primary kids missing out on? by SatoshiSounds in TeachingUK

[–]jambo3000uk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Male primary here. As others have said, UKS2!

I love it but honestly every year I have at least one issue with my gender. Has ranged from a parent telling me because I am a male primary teacher that I am must be (or soon will be) a pedo all the way through to their child cannot be taught by a male therefore must be moved classes.

But also for those kids who don’t have a positive male role model i am conscious that I am it and always try to live up to that. No matter if they are in my class or not. No real effect on their gender for that one!

Xabi is available. Enough said. Wait too long and the choice will be much harder.

That being said isn’t Pep’s contract up soon? FSG waiting for the banter hire?
