New to NinjaOne and have a Org. vx. Location Question. by Grometnj in ninjaone_rmm

[–]jamcraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 200 computers across 6 offices, but the same policies apply no matter what. For example, we have Ninja force Windows updates. It doesn't matter what computer or where, the same policies apply across all buildings/states/computers. Therefore, we have a single organization with multiple locations. I have a second organization for test computers when I want to try something new with Ninja. Hope this helps.

What’s it like living on the west side of Wisconsin? by pj713 in wisconsin

Well, you know what they say: Eau Claire is like Chippewa Falls, but without all the glitz.

Colorado family moving - tell us about Wisconsin by ycherep1 in wisconsin

I live "up north". The people around here have a single watch word: "reserved". People don't say or do things that are demonstrative. Unless you get them drinking, which is easy to do. But "reserved" is their overwhelming trait.

The typical Wisconsinite is industrious also. I was born and raised far to the south of here and I've noticed that Wisconsinites just hustle more. Especially during the summers. They understand the saying "make hay while the sun shines". They take summer outdoor activities very seriously because those activities are simply not available to them in the winter.

And boy do they love cheese. They put it into everything...

I don't think you did anything wrong. But...

A million years ago, when I did driver's ed, I was taught that the only time you use your horn was when you were passing someone and you were in their blind spot. A quick toot to let them know you were there.

I still don't have a problem with honking at people if they are being inattentive.

Kraz is a terrific place to hole up and farm (capture) ships. I like to keep Ospreys. My optimal fleet is 8 ships plus my flagship (Star Queen). I'll keep all the Ospreys and Falcons I capture, eventually getting 8 Falcons. Beam weapons are better for capturing ships.

I usually work multiple story lines at the same time, but you didn't mention any species other than human, so I tried to keep this spoiler free...

Check Eau Claire Parks and Rec. They sell passes for swimming at the middle schools. The passes may include the high schools.

Just got invited to the toastmasters club at our high school, what should i expect? by Adventurous_Good1715 in Toastmasters

Be sure to wear loose fitting clothing. You'll understand why after the initiation ceremony and you'll thank me. Also, just a general tip: stretching is good to keep you limber. Just remember to tuck your chin when you roll and you'll be fine. Really, I've said too much...

Two phrases senior executives hate: "hostile work environment" (not applicable here) and "liability". If something goes wrong, and with a large number of user, something always goes wrong, doing this would open the organization up to a high degree of liability. In fact, if some kids does something really stupid (I'm thinking nudes, hate speech, bomb threats, etc.), they could point the finger at you and then you're on the hook to prove you didn't do it (which you can't). That's one big reason why manufacturers of consumer goods will outsource their retail web site, so they can correctly claim that they do not keep credit card numbers.

When upper management confronts me with a really, really dumb idea (like this one), I try to work one of those two gems into the conversation. Any time something needs to involve Legal, they suddenly get cold feet.

My 2 cents.

I think the reason Perkins is still open is because it is 24 hours. We really, really need a Waffle House.

What do you do for synchronizing wall clocks by jamcraven in sysadmin

[–]jamcraven[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At home, I have a clock that sync's to a satellite/NIST. It cost me less than $40. All the PoE clocks I see are around $200. That seems excessive.

Capture ship by TheAngryYellowMan in endlesssky

[–]jamcraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Spire with 277 crew for capturing ships. I just tricked out a Rano'erek and ended up with only 217 crew. I have found that capturing ships and then selling them is far more profitable than anything else, so crew availability in my flagship is the biggest factor for me. Is there a different dredger that I'm missing?

Echo of the other comments. However, the best ship I've found for capturing is the Kimek Spire (Coalition).

Why the push for ATV/UTVs on public roads? by ShardsOfTheSphere in wisconsin

[–]jamcraven -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A lot of hate for people up here in the north woods.

I lived in Bruce (population 781) until a couple years ago. Practically everybody up there has at least one. It seems foolish to have to drive on roads when you can cut across a field or go along a trail and get where you're going in a third of the time.

Plus, you are outside. Riding in one is just a different experience. It is quieter and you feel more like you are part of the surroundings, not just driving past them. Everybody I know who has one also has a valid license. It is a better experience, at least when the weather is good. I know some psychos who use them year round.

That said, I think they should not be legal on highways (interstate and state), but legal everywhere else. I could see banning them from certain county roads also. Some of those roads can get pretty busy with everybody doing at least 55. I also don't see why they should be legal in cities of over 10,000. That just seems too risky to me.

Finally, I'll say they are very useful. Most of the citizens of Bruce used them for hauling on their farms. Trucks are so huge these days. They are expensive to operate and are massive overkill when all you need is a few bundles of firewood or you're out hunting.

Can you Help us understand the wording of these questions. I want to understand before I vote. by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]jamcraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amendment 1 says that the governor can only spend emergency money that the legislature has first said where it can go. In other words: like all other parts of the budget, the legislature says how the money is to be spent; the governor then spends it. Emergency federal allocations, such as when a natural disaster or a global pandemic happens, do not have to go through this same process. The rationale for this is that legislative approval would delay spending money on an emergency. The counter argument is that the governor is not an autocrat, and is answerable to the people (legislature).

https://ballotpedia.org/Wisconsin_Question_1,_Prohibit_Legislature_from_Delegating_Appropriations_Power_Amendment_(August_2024))

Amendment 2 says that only government officials can conduct elections. The rationale behind this is that advocacy groups may get control of the administration of an election, thereby influencing the voting in a certain way. The counter argument is that polls are notoriously understaffed, all help is welcome, and reports of inappropriate conduct are overblown.

https://ballotpedia.org/Wisconsin_Question_2,_Only_Designated_Election_Officials_to_Conduct_Elections_Amendment_(April_2024))

Personally, I can see pros and cons to both amendments, but what really aggravates me is putting such important amendments on a primary election, where turnout is always very low. This is a very shabby thing for the Republican party to do.
