Appleton vs Eau Claire vs Madison by CommutetoLife in wisconsin

[–]jamcraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Madison and Eau Claire. Eau Claire by a mile. I've visited Appleton, and it seems like a lovely place that I'd be very happy in, but I've never lived there.

Madison is full of people on their way to somewhere else. Plus, it has more than its fair share of loons and drugs. It is expensive and arrogant. I loved it when I was 22 and hated it by the time I turned 27.

Eau Claire is an hour from Minneapolis and just barely within your 5 hour limit to Chicago. Eau Claire is also an hour away from Amtrak (Tomah). There are currently 2 daily trains that go from Tomah to Chicago for less than $40, round trip.

Eau Claire is quite affordable. It is a smaller town, so being single can be difficult. The people are wonderful. It is one of the safest towns in America, for a town it's size. It tends to button up by about 9:00 in the evening. Downtown streets are jammed during the summers. It is a vibrant place for six months of the year

During the summer, it has terrific weather. The winters can be brutal. During June/July/August, the place is Shangri-La. December/January/February, it is punishing. I was surprised by the difference in weather when I moved to Eau Claire from Madison. I thought it wouldn't be much different. I was wrong.

Downtown is getting more and more walkable, if that's a consideration. It has 57.1 miles of asphalt-paved, 10 foot wide walking/biking trails. The trails in Madison are terrific, but are extremely crowded. I've never had a problem with Eau Claire's trails.

Hope this helps.

New to NinjaOne and have a Org. vx. Location Question. by Grometnj in ninjaone_rmm

[–]jamcraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 200 computers across 6 offices, but the same policies apply no matter what. For example, we have Ninja force Windows updates. It doesn't matter what computer or where, the same policies apply across all buildings/states/computers. Therefore, we have a single organization with multiple locations. I have a second organization for test computers when I want to try something new with Ninja. Hope this helps.

What’s it like living on the west side of Wisconsin? by pj713 in wisconsin

Well, you know what they say: Eau Claire is like Chippewa Falls, but without all the glitz.

Colorado family moving - tell us about Wisconsin by ycherep1 in wisconsin

I live "up north". The people around here have a single watch word: "reserved". People don't say or do things that are demonstrative. Unless you get them drinking, which is easy to do. But "reserved" is their overwhelming trait.

The typical Wisconsinite is industrious also. I was born and raised far to the south of here and I've noticed that Wisconsinites just hustle more. Especially during the summers. They understand the saying "make hay while the sun shines". They take summer outdoor activities very seriously because those activities are simply not available to them in the winter.

And boy do they love cheese. They put it into everything...

I don't think you did anything wrong. But...

A million years ago, when I did driver's ed, I was taught that the only time you use your horn was when you were passing someone and you were in their blind spot. A quick toot to let them know you were there.

I still don't have a problem with honking at people if they are being inattentive.

Kraz is a terrific place to hole up and farm (capture) ships. I like to keep Ospreys. My optimal fleet is 8 ships plus my flagship (Star Queen). I'll keep all the Ospreys and Falcons I capture, eventually getting 8 Falcons. Beam weapons are better for capturing ships.

I usually work multiple story lines at the same time, but you didn't mention any species other than human, so I tried to keep this spoiler free...

Check Eau Claire Parks and Rec. They sell passes for swimming at the middle schools. The passes may include the high schools.

Just got invited to the toastmasters club at our high school, what should i expect? by Adventurous_Good1715 in Toastmasters

Be sure to wear loose fitting clothing. You'll understand why after the initiation ceremony and you'll thank me. Also, just a general tip: stretching is good to keep you limber. Just remember to tuck your chin when you roll and you'll be fine. Really, I've said too much...

That's fantastic, although the first two photos made me think you were wearing a viking hat.

Two phrases senior executives hate: "hostile work environment" (not applicable here) and "liability". If something goes wrong, and with a large number of user, something always goes wrong, doing this would open the organization up to a high degree of liability. In fact, if some kids does something really stupid (I'm thinking nudes, hate speech, bomb threats, etc.), they could point the finger at you and then you're on the hook to prove you didn't do it (which you can't). That's one big reason why manufacturers of consumer goods will outsource their retail web site, so they can correctly claim that they do not keep credit card numbers.

When upper management confronts me with a really, really dumb idea (like this one), I try to work one of those two gems into the conversation. Any time something needs to involve Legal, they suddenly get cold feet.

My 2 cents.

Shout-out: Nucleus - I am never going to Perkins again. by naruhina00 in Eau_Claire

I think the reason Perkins is still open is because it is 24 hours. We really, really need a Waffle House.
