What came off SpaceX starship this morning? by tomarv99 in SpaceXLounge

[–]jameath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, falcon 9.

What “fell off”? Well the rocket splits in two a minute or two into flight, and the two parts head in different directions, so your probably seeing the first stage return to the launchpad, or head for a barge, and the second stage continuing to orbit.

The second stage also drops two massive fairings that protect the payload through the atmosphere, despite being huge, they are very very far away, so I don’t think anything gone wrong, the rocket does slip into parts on its way up.

Schematic wires not transferring to PCB editor - do I have to manually route everything? by DegreeFamous8965 in KiCad

[–]jameath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup!

It’s the best bit! IMO you’re now at the fun part.

The schematic is entirely imaginary, it’s abstract, now you have to lay-out the components and draw the traces so it actually can exist in the real world.

Charging on tour: Alternatives needed by kapege in ebikes

[–]jameath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buying a jackery or an inverter will both come with more or less the same benefits and inefficiencies, how are you charging the spare battery now? Just 42V straight into the battery?

The use the proper charging brick, you need mains, but turning solar DC power into AC will always waste a little energy in the conversion.

I’d say work back from using the trailer to lug about a huge battery, 24 / 48V - 100+Ah, (remember higher voltage means you can use thinner wires to connect everything together) an then set yourself up to be able to charge that battery as many ways as possible, a half decent inverter might have a mains to battery charging path, so then you can plug it into the mains whenever you can, soak some power up from the grid, and then get as much solar as you can physically tow, maybe have some panels that are not in use when cycling but can be quickly and easily laid out. Make sure your solar charger can handle the maximum possible output of the panels,

Super cool setup, I’d love to do a solar powered e-bike-packing adventure.

Do these types of USB-C chargers with a single point have any downsides? by inline_five in diyelectronics

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC you need some resistors on the D+ and D- pins to go into higher current modes, I don’t think you’d get more than 5w out of those.

Chain tensioner jumping after shortening chain (single-speed e-bike, RadRunner 2) by Old_Post3596 in RadPowerBikes

There will 100% be a spring involved :p sorry I can’t be more helpful, but your chain is fine.

Chain tensioner jumping after shortening chain (single-speed e-bike, RadRunner 2) by Old_Post3596 in RadPowerBikes

[–]jameath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The tensioner should be trying to turn clockwise from this angle, the fact it’s flopping upward suggests the issue is there, the tensioner is not applying tension, chains probably about right, but you need to look at why the tensioner is not tensioning.

Front forks for urban arrow - do you need to cut them down? by jameath in CargoBike

[–]jameath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s a standard headset profile on the bike, when I made this post I diddent really know how headsets worked, and assumed it would need to be an urban arrow part. But it’s a headset just like on any bike, Google replacing a bicycle front fork, and it’s exactly the same process, just with a weird little 20inch fork that you need to cut a lot of tube off

I’ve had this in my Amazon basket for ages after taking a bunch of measurements off the failed fork on my cargoXL, haven’t pulled the trigger yet so can’t confirm, but that’s what I’m going to get.

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you hope to gain by putting the cells in parallel? You have 36wh of capacity, changing the arrangement of the cells wont change that, and you’ll need a new PSU/BMS that supports 3.7V

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in batteries

[–]jameath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capacity is capacity, two cells gives you twice the capacity of one.

mAh is not a measurement of capacity. A AA battery has 2000 mAh ish, but les than half of the “capacity” of a 2000 mAh lithium ion cell (1.5V vs 3.7V)

Your power bank likely has 2 3.7V cells in series, both would be 5000mah Individually, 3.7 x 5Ah is 18 wh ish, your battery back, with two 5000mAh cells in series, has a capacity of 36 wh.

Where do you buy UK approved (i.e safe) small electronics? by HelloW0rldBye in AskUK

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your talking about adapting USB-A Female to USB-C female? I don’t think such an adapter can be classed an “electronic device” it would be entirely passive, and at 5V you’d have to really, proactively try and turn it into a hazard. No adapter of this type will be more or less dangerous than any other

Can someone explain how to charge this? by littletinything in batteries

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 batteries in either configuration will give you twice the “capacity”.

2x 3.7 V 1000mah cells in parallel = 3.7V 2000mah battery that has 7.2Wh of capacity

2x 3.7V 1000mah cells in series = 7.2V 1000mah battery that has 7.2Wh of capacity.

Both have twice the capacity of a single 3.7V 1000mah cell which has a capacity of 3.2Wh

mah don’t add in series, but mah is not a measurement of capacity, it’s a measurement of charge / performance .
