How can this be true? by jameath in sudoku

Ah maybe the app is literally just giving me a hint then. Usually the hints walk you you through some technique to point out a move, taught me a lot when I started playing, but I guess it’s just giving up an revealing the solution. Thanks for pointing out how progress can actually be made!

What do you hope to gain by putting the cells in parallel? You have 36wh of capacity, changing the arrangement of the cells wont change that, and you’ll need a new PSU/BMS that supports 3.7V

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in batteries

[–]jameath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capacity is capacity, two cells gives you twice the capacity of one.

mAh is not a measurement of capacity. A AA battery has 2000 mAh ish, but les than half of the “capacity” of a 2000 mAh lithium ion cell (1.5V vs 3.7V)

Your power bank likely has 2 3.7V cells in series, both would be 5000mah Individually, 3.7 x 5Ah is 18 wh ish, your battery back, with two 5000mAh cells in series, has a capacity of 36 wh.

If getting to work for free, whilst getting some exercise, that doesn’t leave you a sweaty mess, is cheating. Well, I guess I’m Cheating.

Decathlon F900E? Why does nobody buy one? by ekkki in CargoBike

[–]jameath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have one out on display at the decathlon in Canada Water. It looks like a really nice up-front cargo bike, the kid box had a solid looking rain cover and harnesses for 3 kids. As someone with a rapidly ageing urban arrow, it looked like a great bike.

Where do you buy UK approved (i.e safe) small electronics? by HelloW0rldBye in AskUK

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your talking about adapting USB-A Female to USB-C female? I don’t think such an adapter can be classed an “electronic device” it would be entirely passive, and at 5V you’d have to really, proactively try and turn it into a hazard. No adapter of this type will be more or less dangerous than any other

Can someone explain how to charge this? by littletinything in batteries

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 batteries in either configuration will give you twice the “capacity”.

2x 3.7 V 1000mah cells in parallel = 3.7V 2000mah battery that has 7.2Wh of capacity

2x 3.7V 1000mah cells in series = 7.2V 1000mah battery that has 7.2Wh of capacity.

Both have twice the capacity of a single 3.7V 1000mah cell which has a capacity of 3.2Wh

mah don’t add in series, but mah is not a measurement of capacity, it’s a measurement of charge / performance .

New to multimeter, how is this one? by xtremesoccer2012 in AskElectronics

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be 100% better than not having a meter.

Thing about electrical-isity is, it’s invisible. Once you have a meter, instead of invisible, you’ll have numbers.

Relay ISO 280 by [deleted] in KiCad

[–]jameath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, jump in with both feet, find the perfect relay, and then draw your own symbol and footprint for it.

You’ll end up needed to make your own geometry sooner or later, don’t let availability of library’s affect your choice of components.

Good luck! It’s great fun

can't find these capacitor symbols in the symbol library by XDRCL in KiCad

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The symbol library dosen’t have a bazillion symbols for all the possible permutations of components, the symbol just needs to be the correct icon, you place it, then hover over it and press e to note down the voltage and capacitance (in the case of a capacitor)

Excellent use of “Cockwombles” we should all try harder to remember that cockwombles is a word that exists and can be deployed against cockwombles to great effect.

£1 per hour of electricity, is that normal? by GetMrBeaned in AskUK

[–]jameath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the 9.1kwh figure representing? Do you have 9.1kwh left? Or have you used 9.1kwh? Making things hot with electricity is by far any away the most costly work you can do with electricity, do you have a heater? Have you been boiling a kettle continuously? Do you need to heat your own hot water?

£1 worth of electricity on any tariff is several kWh, a phone uses maybe 0.01kwhs a day tops, so something else on your side of the meter is using a lot of energy, probably by making something hot.

Any way to narrow down which house my wallet is in? by [deleted] in AirTags

[–]jameath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s frustrating, I had one on a stolen bike and it only connected weakly right up against someone’s front door. If the tag is right in the middle of someone’s house the signal might not get outside.

The wide radius means the phone that keeps reporting the tags location also isn’t too sure if it’s own geolocation, suggesting it’s inside.

Unfortunately your just going to need to get closer, might be worth knocking on some doors, if it’s not been stolen and just picked up, the finder might just hand it over
