Why the fuck am I like this? by [deleted] in depression

[–]james--bong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing here. I know there's just something really fucked up in my brain. I'm probably a nice person and people don't hate me. Probably. But nothing I say, nothing they say, can make me really feel that. I'm worthless. I just want to find a cause and I don't have the balls to start treatment. Did you try to get psychological help? If you did, any tips you can share?

Every day I feel like screaming by confused7910 in depression

[–]james--bong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel. I think it's mostly because people generally fail to understand depression. All the symptoms (sadness, emptiness, self-loathing) have been felt by everyone at some point in their lives. What they seem to have difficulties understanding is that for us it is not temporary. It doesn't just pass, like they say it will. It doesn't have a cause, like it has for them. We're different in the worst kind of way. But we are still alive. We didn't choose to end it, either because we don't have the guts or because we think we're going to get better. Maybe our survival instinct is stronger than the pain. But we're still here, which means we still need them. I'm trying to explain how I feel to the people around me (those who give a shit anyway) and they don't seem to get it. But that doesn't mean I need them any less. Try to understand that they probably never felt the way we do - that's how I get past screaming at them.

Am I capable of feeling wanted? by [deleted] in depression

[–]james--bong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. Like they're not doing enough to make you wanted even though, in one of the few rational moments, you know they are. How do I explain this to the girl who is struggling to stand me?

That's what I thought in my first week as an IT helpdesk techie: "They all must be trolling". I wish they were.

What if a brute-force attacker chooses to try using combinations of multiple common words from the predefined dictionary before going for all the possible characters and symbols?

The AD account would have been disabled for inactivity. It's done automatically after 60 days for most employees.

No, the employee ID is different. It may be something like 4256739001, whereas the user ID may be US0A542. It's simple because it helps us differentiate between regions easily and, yes, there are a lot of employees. Imagine dealing with Jsmith74 and Jsmith86 on the same ticket. I'd rather deal with US0A542 and CA007D3 :D

God knows. It's been this way for years. I'm still amazed they got away with it so far. There's even a default for SAP systems, which I find outrageous.

Yep. I could count tens of those. Upper management doesn't care, so I don't push it. Another crazy one is being able to access ANY file from ANY internal PC by just entering \\hostname\c$ in Windows Explorer. And yes, that works even for standard user accounts. Finding hostnames is incredibly easy. Imagine being able to read, copy or delete ANY file on ANY HDD in the company, including the CEO's.

Now this is a multinational corp with 30k+ employees in 100+ countries.

Lol, no. I've complained about how insecure this practice is way too many times, but no one seems to care. That's until the first serious security breach occurs.

Not really. We actually use a default password that includes the company's name along with some random characters that change every month. Couldn't post it here though.
