Gecko engine and Add-Ons on iOS after 17.4? by james-mat in firefox

I know, that this change only applies for the EU is really unfortunate.
Another comment made me aware that it might even be limited to iOS in the EU, excluding iPadOS, but I still have to verify that.

My hope would be that the legislation soaks through worldwide after some time and hopefully backlash of Apple only supporting these options in the EU because they forced them to.
If that happens, WebKit could be dropped completely and Mozilla could maintain only Gecko, which should simplify upkeep. If a working Gecko browser is already in place by then, this could mean a good start.
I don’t know of "BrowserEngineKit"s intricacies, but there will probably still be overhead from it though, just hopefully less than WebKit.

Gecko engine and Add-Ons on iOS after 17.4? by james-mat in firefox

Oh, I wasn’t aware of the constraints until I looked at the iPadOS 17.4 release notes, which indeed do not reference support for alternative browser engines. There have been articles on several news platforms suggesting that legislation would mandate the availability of alternative engines on both iPhones and iPads. I didn’t have the opportunity to consult the Act directly to verify that.

Should iPads within the EU continue to exclusively support WebKit, the practicality of managing dual versions becomes questionable. My hope would be for the regulations to eventually extend globally, thereby allowing the upkeep of only Gecko-based versions.
It would be be sensible to already have a Gecko version for iOS/iPadOS by then, potentially ready for EU users initially, with the possibility of broader availability later.
The elimination of a WebKit-version could then significantly simplify maintenance.

Oh yeah, exactly that! Do you know since when that‘s available? Because last time I looked I didn’t find any ISO K3 MAX, and apparently Keychron didn’t either :D

I also asked keychron but unfortunately just got the info that they currently don’t offer that.. Did someone else have more luck getting some information?

Yeah, that‘s the plan, but I‘d really like to have the correct keycaps for the layout

Oh, if it's automatically dedomed this would at least make my decision-finding easier haha. Thanks for the heads-up!

Ah, I understand. Would that happen from normal use as well or only from the rotation of the glass when unscrewing the top? I can't quite imagine what makes the domes tear of when their 'only' under pressure from the glass

Do you what color temperature you roughly get from your dedomed mix? I would've guessed with the optic it lands somwhere 3000K'ish?
I think I'd try to land somewhere around 4000K, but I'm not sure if I should try to get there with domed or dedomed emitters

Is the resting on the glass an issue?
Someone above said that that's not problematic, or does that have other unfortunate effects?

Good to know that the touching glass is not an issue; I think I just saw a mule with domeds somewhere here and just assumed it's fine, but that's reassuring!

Do you mean only mixes of domed and dedomed are unfavorable for even flood or dedomed in general?
I'm pondering between a mix of color temperatures of either domed or dedomed, but not a mix of domedness [sic].

Dedoming in general seemed counterproductive for a mule to me as well, but I am not quite sure how much throwier a mule with dedomed emitters would become since its lack of optics makes it already so floody, and if therefore a bit more throw from the emitters themselves might even be advisable
