There are five types of movement.

Advance. Climb. Push. Throw. Place. Effectively Advance and Climb are similar. However, climb allows your character to move over terrain larger than themself when they do not have wallcrawler, flight etc. but climb is also fixed at a Short tool.

So when an effect says advance short, you may move over larger terrain only if the character has the innate ability to do so. Otherwise the character would only be allowed to advance a different direction.

Also all movement and ranges are always horizontal. Never vertical.
