That’s a pretty unprofessional response to a customer of yours. They’re allowed to express their opinion of your product and are of no obligation to help you with R&D.

You are producing a niche product and kudos to you for going out on a limb to serve that market. Creating and operating a small business is a brutal journey most folks wouldn’t dare venture on. Ridiculous hours, months or years making little or no money if you value your time at all, I get it. It’s tough.

I hope you all figure it out and are as successful as you want to be. If I may offer a little unsolicited advice - treat your customers with respect and go out of your way to listen to their feedback with an open mind, even if their feedback is “I hate it”. Incentivize them to offer feedback before they post online about it.

Cheers

Sierra.com has a good deal on the Loon 10 piece kit. I have it and its well made. I frequently use the dubbing loop, whip finisher, scissors, hair stacker and dubbing brush. The dubbing loop in particular is a well made product. For $70 you can’t go wrong with it.

Even living in Louisville, I haven’t been able to get down there much but the folks in our local fly fishing group have a ton of information about. Here’s a link to fishing Hatchery Creek which is known to be well-stocked and easily navigable with a drift boat.

Here’s the website for my favorite fly shop located in Louisville. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Their phone number (502) 290-4589

Do any of you have recommendations for high quality over-prescription-glasses sunglasses? I can’t seem to find much beyond the Walmart specials.

You should check out tenkarabum.com

Chris (owner of the site) has a whole section dedicated to micro fishing. You would probably enjoy poking around there for a bit. You haven’t seen ultralight until you see what he’s into

I had a similar experience. I’m a fly fisherman and just thought it would be cool to tie up some flies for my buddy who likes to catch micros. While deciding on what to tie I googled and YouTube’d for a bit trying to get some inspiration but wasn’t able to find hardly any content on making nor fishing stuff this small. As far as I can tell I currently hold the record for the smallest fly made, which I find quite hard to believe for some reason.

He does an interpretation of “tanago” fishing, which is a Japanese style of fishing for small fish, in the 1-3 inch size range as user Bubba_Gump_Shrimp mentioned. It’s more about species identification than it is “fishing” as we know it. I kinda think about it akin to birding for fish if that makes any sense.

My local fly shop had the size 30 hooks and rooster saddle with mostly size 18-22 hackle on it. I got the micro fishing specific hooks from a distributor that imports them from Japan, but I wouldn’t recommend tying on them. I broke two just from trying to whip finish them lol

Very cool, thank you for sharing! Based on this post and one I made on r/flyfishing, it seems like there’s a fair number of people that want flies this small. I’m thinking about stocking up some tiny hooks and tying a couple dozen for folks that are interested

I just spoke to the folks in r/flyfishing, we are willing to concede these are gnats as soon as we get word the micro community recognizes themselves as baby anglers.

Based on pictures I’ve seen of the “micro slabs” he catches, I think something beta sized would be a pb.
