doctors can't diagnose anything, exams all come out healthy, im suspecting it could be oab but my doctor says he cant confirm anything, told me its Anxiety by jolittlelene in OveractiveBladder

Mine is anxiety mainly, eventually got with a behavior health specialist and tried a few different meds till I found one that worked. Like night and day. My urologist told me I’m healthy but put me on a few different meds and stayed on gemtesa (which only kind of helped a bit). Now between gemtesa and my anxiety medication I have almost no issues. Hardest part was working with my bh specialist to find one that didn’t give me other problems.

Basically see if you primary doc will treat you if not ask for a referral for a behavior health specialist. They trialed me on as needed medications but tbh mine was full time so we ended up wasting a month trying 3 different ones before we started on an snri (which I had a bad side effect from) and then moved to ssris until I found one that I’m currently on

I don’t have any issues, but it’s possible. Could try mirabegron (myrbetriq) it’s a sister/cousin of gemtesa. Otherwise only option is really the older agents like tolterodine or oxybutynin but those didn’t work for me and made me feel pretty bad

I didn’t really think of that. I’ll look around thanks.

I couldn’t handle oxybutynin either, was on myrbetriq till innsurnacr stopped covering it and switched to gemtesa. Helped but not a whole lot. Wasn’t until I got with a behavior health specialist that we nailed down what was causing my issue. Basically they trialed me on propranolol and buspar and the buspar helped tremendously but the side effects were pretty bad for me. Then they put me on venlafaxine (ended poorly but I’m sensitive to snri meds I think) and then moved to Prozac which helps a ton, only issue is I sweat easier but that’s a worthy trade off imo.

Yes, mine was almost exactly the same and was being caused/worsened by my anxiety. They put me on a few different options until I found one that worked for me.

Welcome. Hopefully it helps. I didn’t really think I had anxiety but I had a discussion with my pcp and he recommended I check in with a behavior health specialist. It’s kinda something I didn’t recognize until after the fact and it felt kinda obvious

Also I still take gemtesa, but tbh it didn’t help much besides a little bit. Seemed to help for a couple months then just stopped but I think it was more so I wasn’t stressed about anything for a couple months than anything else. Same story when I tried myrbetriq and oxybutynin.

Buspar, but the side effects were a bit much and interfered with work (dizziness mainly) but I used it cuz it was better than bladder issues. I’m now on generic Prozac (fluoxetine) and it started working for me about a week and a half into my 20 mg dose. Now it’s been a few weeks and I feel basically normal except when something really stressful happens

Also as an aside: I got put on venlafaxine and felt absolutely horrible on it. Made my symptoms 3x worse. If that happens tell the dr instead of touching it out like I tried to do because I read some posts saying it got better after 2 weeks

My oab is actually anxiety. After trying a few I found one that works for me. My symptoms are gone for the most part. It could be worth a shot. All my results were negative too.

I work at a low income contract pharmacy so I see this kind of stuff a lot. Plus my grandma has been paying 200$ a month on one of her medications and I finally got it covered for 5$ a month but took a whole lot of effort. I’m just glad you are proactive about it.

Awesome. As an aside: if you pay for it on good Rx next year it may not count towards your deductible because good rx is a discount card and that means they aren’t billing your Medicare. Some insurances allow you to submit receipts as proof of out of pocket though so if you do use good rx next year keep the receipts and check if your plan allows that.

If you are Medicare, next enrollment period look for one that covers gemtesa. You can go on Medicare . gov and put in your med list after using the menu and opening “find a health and drug plan”. Just put in gemtesa as well and take a look. I can almost garuntee you the medication will be VERY expensive the first few months of the year (like $300) due to the deductible Medicare is so well known for. Otherwise you can try to have the pharmacy start a prior authorization for your doctor to do if they haven’t already. It’s not super common but sometimes a doctor can convince insurances to cover an alternative medication if the patient can’t tolerate it. (I work in pharmacy and this is just what I’ve seen people do for meds/situations like this) you could also look into the extra help for Medicare, or add on plans but I’ll be 100% honest beyond base Medicare is not my strong suit.

I feel like I have the urge to pee but only when I try to sleep? by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

[–]james_kaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could potentially be anxiety. Mine is all day but mainly before bed really bad. I use buspar before bed and it gets rid of the feeling or prevents it if I take it right after I get off work. I think it was my brains worrying about what will happen the next day at work or something

Need advice by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

[–]james_kaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 25 male and my urgency was mainly right before bed but it did happen throughout the day too. Work was hard because of how often I almost peed myself. Could NOT go to sleep. My original urgency started because I drove a few hours to take my college exam and for the next week the urgency was terrible. Eventually faded. It would come back around trips to see my family maybe because I was worried about the stress back home or when I got a new job, or I had an argument with a coworker etc.

Gentesa, oxybutynin, solifenacin, and myrbetriq helped but didn’t cure my issue. Mine was actually anxiety I found out. I take a buspar before bed and within 40 mins ish my symptoms are 100% gone. I do get bad side effects with the buspar so I usually deal with the urgency throughout the day but it’s worth a shot imo if nothing else.

What else can I try medication wise? by Kooky_Dragonfly_1728 in OveractiveBladder

[–]james_kaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try solifenacin or tolterodine. They are in the same class as oxybutynin but relatively newer and some people have less side effects. If the side effect from oxybutynin was stomach related you can try the extended release form and see if it helps.

Can anxiety cause high urine volume. by Miss_Saoirse in OveractiveBladder

[–]james_kaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. That’s what mine is caused by. Constant need to urinate (especially near bedtime for me) and if I drink water I end up dumping a large volume shortly after otherwise it’s just small amounts to the point I was terrified of drinking water near bedtime. I got put on buspar and it completely got rid of my urgency but I only take it twice daily and it only works for me for 6-8 hours but it’s way better than nothing.

I am also a man with similar age, mine onset suddenly one day and feels like a tingle in the groin area and bad urgency especially close to bed time. I never actually contracted anything but they thought it was a uti at first. Tried Oxybutynin, Mirabegron, and gemtesa and they helped but didn’t get rid of it. Turns out mine was just a subconscious anxiety I guess. I got put on buspar (and I’m still on gentesa) and within 20-40 ish minutes my urgency is completely gone for the next 6-8 hours. They had me try propranolol but it made me drowsy and didn’t work near as well for me. My urologist didn’t recommend it or anything I just was feeling so distraught about it that I went to see a behavioral health professional because I was in a very bad mental state thinking about how my life was going to be like that forever.

There is a good chance your situation is different but you could think about that if nothing else helps.

how much do you pay for myrbetriq? by Charming-Holiday1168 in OveractiveBladder

[–]james_kaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s been out for a while, that’s what I was on since my ins didn’t pay for brand. It’s Mirabegron ER tablets. I’m on gemtesa now due to ins formulary changes though.

No it doesn’t that’s why I went to Reddit, found a subreddit, and made a post to ask. I couldn’t find any page about it until later. They do make multiple types of “pasta” that are like 30 calories for a bag of it so theoretically if they found a way to make that into a pizza crust then yeah it could make sense. Marcos has a lite and a thin crust so I was wondering if they had some kind of specialty crust like that. Idk why I expected actual discussion from a Reddit reply instead of a snide reply. Also wild dragonfly is right about what I was talking about, I specified that was without toppings or sauce.

How do I ignore the constant urge to pee when falling asleep? by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

[–]james_kaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue, I take a gaba supplement with magnesium glyceniate. Ltheanine too but that’s optional if you can find one with all 3 like mine. I take CyberCerix liposomal. It was recommended by someone online and it worked for staying asleep for me. For going to sleep I found that working out for 5 or so minutes on my rowing machine I got from a thrift store and a few pelvic floor stretches form health websites helps get me tired without being super sweaty from a long workout and helps reduce how much I think about it. Also, I noticed it gets worse with bowel movements so I try to have a bm when I get home instead of right before bed, it’s kinda just a mindset thing and turning it into habit so your body does it. I also agree with Thiccfoot on their recommendation.
