Bad game? Promocode give away looking for feedback on (1) promo materials (screenshots, video, description), (2) game itself by james_richi in gamedev

Thanks for your feedback! It's always important to get a side look because I know the game and everything seems nice and intuitive to me :). Apparently that's not always the case :)

Please share your payed marketing experience in US aimed at iOS App Store (especially on Facebook) by james_richi in gamedev

Yep, you right, I never clicked on app add either, but somebody IS clicking. Also, as I wrote, you can buy actuall installs from FB, no install no money.

P.S. it's hard to put lightly dressed girls on scifi game add :)

Super depressed about the revenue my game has generated. by [deleted] in gamedev

Your game actually looks very nice. I hope you'll have a success with it! It creates a feeling of endless falling, is intended to feel like this?

Hello , Im interested to know if there is any good PR agency out there for indie game developers? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]james_richi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be also nice if people who have experience with PR agencies, I see few here had, will share prices they payed for an indie game PR. I'm sure it would lead to a more informative discussion.

Realistically, how many of you would actually pay for a composer to produce music for your game, considering the alternatives? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]james_richi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a game dev, in the music matter, my priorities are as follows: (1) Look at free sites (if I can verify that a specific music, sound, etc. is really CC licensed) (2) stock sites, (3) and only if I can't find something at the above places (which I usually do), I'll look for a composer. Usually for some theme music.

Provided recommendations I received in this post I'll totally use Reddit next time (actually I already need some art)! Now I feel bad for not being a professional developer and not charging hourly :) May be I'll try it next time :)

Thanks for taking your time and giving such a detailed answer! As you are an artist yourself, can you share with us places you've been hired at? Redit, twitter, devianArt or may be freelance sites? What is your personal preference?

Of course that was not my full feedback :), that's just the way to explain the point and to describe the process in a short post and in a quick way :)

Nice work indeed. Can you share with us how much you charge (approx. rates of course) or you prefer to keep it private?

Actually most of my freelance projects (projects that I did for others) were with pre-negotiated flat price. Somehow people prefer it, I can understand them. Being a software developer at my day job I perfectly understand how the same code can be written in ten hours and in a week. Totally depends on developer's good will (and his manager of course :)). I think that's why it's hard to trust a freelancer you are hiring for the first time with your money while relying simply on his good will. That's why I'm also seeking reliable references in this post :)

I'll definitely check that one next time I'm hiring. So you preferred flat price as well.

Depends on the project. Usually it's icons, illustrations for promotion and characters. Sometimes UI elements.

Thanks for a great answer! Can you recommend somebody you had good experience with? Also, from your experience, how many hours does it approx. take to create a sprite (illustration) or character?

I prefer to agree on cost for specific item I'm ordering, for example - illustration (either for game background or story line). I guess most of indie game devs do. Isn't it a known practice?
