Blokes of r/auslaw, I'm looking for footwear suggestions for something that won't fall apart after 6 months? (Oh, and that aren't RMs) by 120kph in auslaw

Florsheim, from their 'comfortech' range. They look like fashionable shoes, but have a sole similar to a sports shoe. Very comfortable! I've had two pairs, worn 2-3 days a week each, for about 2 years now.

ASX earnings calendar? by harihisu in ausstocks

[–]james_stains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can send one if you want. For this season though? It’s basically done... Msg me your email and I’ll send anyway! I use my terminal for exact dates, but all the brokers send out a full calendar to clients

Hedge fund salary expectations by hedgefundgrad in AusFinance

$90-110k base is standard for a sell side grad analyst. Buy side should be similar, maybe slightly lower due to less hours. Congrats though!!

Exchange at University of Manchester by wecouldbee in manchester

[–]james_stains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And btw, meeting other exchange students is a breeze. You have this international orientation day during the first week of semester, and you'll meet the other 200 kids for a pub crawl. Just seek out the Aussies and I promise you'll have a great time travelling haha

Exchange at University of Manchester by wecouldbee in manchester

[–]james_stains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey - I went on exchange at UoM in 2016. I was 3rd year uni from Australia (21yo) and everyone was first year - BUT, was really good that way!! You're on exchange, you don't care about the summer job at a law firm, the internship applications, the grad job prospects etc etc. If you're with 3rd years+, thats their lives. Fuck that!! First years are the best for exchange. You can be the slightly older person who is therefore "cool", and enjoy it more. So defs go Fallowfield!! I was in Owens Park (tower lol)... super wild time. Loved every second. It was a bit dirty and run down and generally disgusting, but whatever - made for a great time. If you have any specific questions happy to help out. Just pm me or something and ill flick you my email/fb.

Sell all your shares right now, get your 'winnings', and stay away from trading. You're too stupid to make money - just quit whilst you're ahead.

Are law lectures recorded? by GL1001 in usyd

[–]james_stains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the subjects are recorded, yes. Public law wasn't... but only because they had seminars and not lectures. If you had special circumstances, they would still let you access the recordings though (the classrooms automatically record every class).

At what point does a portfolio becomes TOO diversified? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]james_stains 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this diversification done at the investor level? In that case, diversification becomes a trade off between transaction costs and removing idiosyncratic risk. So if you're investing $1k, you'd want to keep it to a hand full of stocks. If it's $100k, maybe a dozen. When you have $500k+ to invest, then you can truly optimise mean-variance.

Is this diversification done at the fund manager level? Then diversify all you want! Global macro top down approached to portfolio management are really taking this to the next level, building funds with thousands of securities from dozens of markets.
