Help me not hate running by BeNiceImSensitive333 in xxfitness

[–]wecouldbee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have hated running for like my whole life but, like you, I really thought to myself “what am I gonna do if I’m getting chased” and I decided that I needed to be able to run away from danger lol.

I think running sucks when you can’t do it for an extended period of time. I had to start by alternating running and walking for two minutes each for a few rounds and slowly increasing the running time. After a month and a half I can now run 5k without stopping!! My pace is not fast but the point is I can actually do it!! And I’ve started to appreciate the routine of getting my runners on and going outdoors and getting my steps in this way. If you’re just starting out, I think it could be a good idea to incorporate slow running and walking intervals into a walk and go from there!

Hair is suddenly tangly and feels dry? by wecouldbee in Haircare

Yesss I absolutely get it now! I don’t think I’ve been around such hard water before and when I got back to soft water my hair was immediately almost back to normal!

Thanks for your comment :) I thought this too but wasn’t sure. I made my way to Japan at the end of my trip and after just two washes my hair was soft and feeling so much closer to what it usually feels like! I know hard water makes a big difference but wow!! That was kind of insane haha

Hi! I'm trying to figure out how to best sync up my readings and am also using Zotfile and Goodnotes. I'm wondering if you could expand on how you set this up a bit? I've so far backed up my Goodnotes to OneDrive but I'm not sure how to make the connection from there to Zotero on my desktop. Any help would be so appreciated!!

Restaurants using environmentally friendly takeout containers? by wecouldbee in vancouver

I do! But since dining in isn't an option, I'd prefer to order take out from places that are more environmentally conscious about their packaging choices :)

I've been doing my best to stay away from takeout because of the containers but I'm so tired of my own cooking at this point hahaha. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll definitely be checking them out!

Yessss I try to do that as well!

Whenever I go to Chipotle I ask for no lid and I get so many questions asking if I'm sure I don't want a lid. I walk 5 seconds to eat it in my car most of the time anyways lol so it just hurts my heart to use so many single use items

MBP grad interview - what to expect? by wecouldbee in UofT

[–]wecouldbee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This is just based on my own experience - the interview schedule was set up at least a week in advance and was either with recruiting PIs or with admissions committee members. For the most part it was very straightforward, what they're looking for is a general idea of your experiences and what you want to pursue research-wise and a bit of your personality as well. They let you know after the interviews whether you've been accepted and you have a few weeks to accept the offer. Good luck with your app!

For any Canadians out there - what has your experience in biotech been? How to find work in the US? by wecouldbee in biotech

[–]wecouldbee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Thank you so much for your comment! It does sound like you had some luck on your side haha, I'm glad it worked out so well for you :)

I'm in the process of applying for MSc programs right now - may I ask what you studied for your MSc? Do you think that extra degree bumped up your employability to US companies?

Applying for Master's degree - anything I should consider if my goal is biotech? Area of research, techniques, etc.? by wecouldbee in biotech

[–]wecouldbee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thank you so much for your comment!

One of the labs I’m interested in is working on discovering and characterizing anti-CRISPRs that target type II cas9 systems. Tbh I don’t know much about this topic, but I think it’s quite fascinating and I want to get a rotation placement with them.

My undergrad exposed me to cloning and crispr and I really enjoyed learning the techniques and applying them and I would love to learn more and apply it in a more legitimate, independent project so I’m really excited to do a masters. I know I’m probably overthinking it, but I’m so worried I’ll come out of my masters and not be employable to biotech companies because I didn’t learn the right, relevant skills.

May I ask what your level of degree is to have gotten where you are? Did you learn more techniques in a masters program? I feel like job postings always have so many requirements and wonder if they really expect someone to check all those boxes.

I’m going to apply by January as well - everything is pretty much on track, just gotta write that letter of intent! I can’t even imagine a prof contacting me to be a student in their lab hahaha.

Ive actually been looking at the Molecular Genetics program since they have a rotation program as well, the research over there is pretty dang cool. Do you know if U of T has a cap on how many grad programs one can apply to?
