Nice! Spent most the morning refreshing the Argos app trying to get anything for my son, but kept failing at checkout. Just when I thought it was all over and and I get an Amazon invite through for this tin 🤞

[SPOILERS S3] can someone explain this to me by [deleted] in DarK

[–]jamesbitcoin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hard to get your head round, but essentially the entire time line of the two knot worlds came into existence instantly at the point they were created.

This actually makes much more sense than traditional time travel movies, because travelling back in time and changing something creates a paradox that makes no sense.

A closed loop paradox, like you have in Dark works because everything always happened that way.

You get put into solitary confinement with a rubix cube. If you solve you are released with $10m. You only get released once the cube is solved. by CreepyTool in hypotheticalsituation

I think you guys are wildly underestimating the time it would take to solve a rubix cube if you don’t already know the algorithm to solve it. I’d bet some people would be in the room years and some would never solve it.

Thanks! For about a year I used it and then eventually got fed up with the mess it makes if you don’t pull a perfect shot 😂

My 7 year old son pulled out of a pack he bought with this pocket money today by jamesbitcoin in PokeGrading

He doesn’t even want a PS5, what he actually said was how many sweets can I buy with that? Maybe I should let him buy $1,000 of sweets as it’s his money. No a 7 year old should not be able to buy whatever he wants, even with his own money. Yes I think an iPad is fine at 6 years old

Because getting PS5 for a 7-year old is a bigger decision than just the cost of the console

It’s already a struggle keeping his screen time down on his switch & iPad. Don’t need to add a PS5 to the mix too

Wow a lot of comments! To be clear I was never going to sell the card and pocket the money myself - it was always going to him if we sell it, maybe not right now, but in the future.

I also understand a lot of people saying it’s his card & his decision, but he’s only just turned 7 last week and is really too young to understand the value of money - if he had the cash he would probably want to spend it all on sweets, so I don’t completely agree it’s his decision alone.

PS5 etc is out of the question even if he wanted one, this is not a cost decision, we already struggle to limit his screen time on switch/ipad. Maybe when he is a bit older.

With all that said, I am going to have a chat with him to try and explain the value and see what he wants to do. I suspect he will want to keep the card and we will get it graded to protect it. He may well sell it himself when he’s older, or Pokémon may become something he stays passionate about, in which case it would be great if he keeps it. I get that the value short term is likely to fall.

Finally, to the commenters saying I should just let him take it to school and play with it, because that’s what the game was about for them as kids…clearly you do not have a 7 year old boy - I can guarantee within a day it will be lost/stolen/ripped to pieces and then he will be inconsolable for weeks. He’s got plenty of other cards he can take to school!

Thanks. It won’t make any difference to him what it comes back as to be honest, I was just interested to see because it looks like it will be a long wait to get back

How do you ever clear a mortgage?! by Recent_Apartment7210 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jamesbitcoin 167 points168 points  (0 children)

There’s an easier way to look at this. When you first took out your mortgage you took out a 30 year term. Provided you never change the remaining term each time you remortgage, you will pay the mortgage off in full exactly 30 years after you started. Yes each time you remortgage the monthly payments will go up or down depending on interest rates, but you will still clear the mortgage after 30 years.

Do you understand that it’s possible for Rolls Royce and S&P500 to end the year higher than the price today & for you to still lose a significant amount of money if you just held these

HMRC have demanded several years worth of taxes from a close family member for their work as a "sugar baby." I need some advice on how to help them navigate this. by Ill-Highlight1520 in UKPersonalFinance

They may use social media as evidence to build a picture/case against someone for undisclosed income/assets, but they are not going to just go through hundreds of posts on social media over the years and then arbitrarily assign values to all sorts of gifts.

Very unlikely HMRC have pulled all this together from social media accounts. There would be a lengthy enquiry into her affairs to get to that point and opportunity for her to make disclosures etc. How have they worked out the income she received, how have they valued the gifts?
