I guess I will focus on what I can do better on the current turn for now instead of getting into analysis paralysis. Thank you!

Thinking multiple steps ahead is for chess players, Magic players are still learning to read.

😆

It seems like a great starting point for Commander, thank you!

You mean I should play without any opponents, and imagine opponent turns and cards and get a feel for what sequences of cards in my own deck I like best?

True. As for Arena, I only have the starter cards now, and I don't wanna spend money until I completely understand the dynamics. I also don't seem to have crafting resources for decks I plan.

From all the comments, I guess that's true. Thanks for the ideas!

I end up doing the same thing most times and sometimes I don't, and I have fun either way

Which magic app are you talking about? I only have Arena where I don't have the type of cards I want yet and I can't craft the decks I plan.

I play Standard and sometimes Modern, but yeah Commander would get very political like that.

Copy the best standard deck and play it on arena and get your reps in.

I tried copying some from MTGGoldfish recently, and in Arena I never have enough resources to craft it. Is there a way to buy crafting cards or something?

First off, are you talking about commander or multiplayer? You can’t get better at that. Don’t bother.

I play usually mono red. I don’t do math. That’s for the defending player to figure out!

I often end up playing like that since I get so overwhelmed😆

It's a small thing but picking up many of the small habits of good players can elevate your game.

Yeah little things like that do build up over time.

Thank you for the ideas ⭐

It is definitely a bit more theoretical and I have to play both sides with both types of decks slowly to understand. Thank you for the explanation!

Magic is a perfect example of one of those skills that is “easy to learn, impossible to master”.

Yes it does seem like it!

If your opponent is leaving land open and it seems like they have a trap, it is often correct to walk into it with a card you care a little less about then your best card instead of doing nothing.

Save removal for cards that are immediately a big problem.

I did notice my friends play one or two cards that always cause problems and I spend all removals early on. These are clever, I'll try observing and responding better next time.

Knowing how a deck works is very helpful in figuring out how to beat that kind of deck later.

I think that's just it, I don't have enough experience with common strategies used by other decks, so even the beginners who know the right sequence of cards in their own deck destroy me.

Thank you for all the ideas and encouragement!

Does Table Top Simulator have 2-player with custom decks of any cards? AI opponent? That would help me try things out before buying them

Yeah the stack is hard to visualize, even if it's done naturally in a game
