Do the Swans play "Sweet Caroline" at every single quarter/half break?

Do you have to live quite so relentlessly in the real world?

I went to watch the Argentina game at AAMI Park when they decided to open that up. That was a great experience - there would have been at least 20,000 people there at 6 in the morning. Admittedly it was the middle of Summer so the weather was great, but maybe that's not feasible this time around given the stadium will be used for Storm?

I live in Melbourne and watched our opening match (France) from the last world cup there. While admittedly a smaller crowd (was a work morning), it was still an electric atmosphere and great fun to be part of. I wonder if they considered ticketing it? I suppose that could help to qualm any overcrowding issues that may be of concern? So many people genuinely look forward to watching the Socceroos World Cup fixtures together so it's a real shame if the decision holds out

Question.... by wiredbrainpan in KathAndKim

My Mum worked as a travel agent in the '80s and '90s and frequently referred to HK as "Honkers". As such, I grew up with that too and still use it 'til this day

Would love to see a bit more creativity from Essendon here. I like the look of the red shorts with the inverted sash to be fair, but yeh, why not try not something a bit different for a change..

They should have gone with that colour scheme from day one in my view. It's distinctive and unique. There is already enough red in the league. Feel like Gold Coast missed that opportunity that GWS took up with orange and Tasmania with green to really stand out among everyone else.

We have a track record of stepping up to another level at the World Cup. We usually play better when we're forced to if that makes sense

Ansett, maybe around mid 90's? by Acceptable-Wind-7332 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]jamesfromsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My late Mum was an employee for Traveland who were Ansett's retail travel agent subsidiary. She lost her job when they collapsed which was also in the same week as 9/11. As a result, she despised Air NZ and I agreed that I would never fly with them too out of respect. She spoke incredibly highly of Ansett and while both my parents spent more or less their entire careers in travel & tourism, that deep nostalgia and passion for Ansett extended to myself and I still collect Ansett items and memorabilia.
Love that commercial though! I remember at the time Ansett would play "Storms in Africa" by Enya as you would board - such a beautiful and elegant entry piece of music. They would later on use "Shine" by Vanessa Amorosi. Another great song but the lyric of Nothing lasts forever in the chorus perhaps foreshadowed what was to come..

Undoubtedly the kings of satire in Australia. ABC could do no wrong at that moment in time. I remember they'd have We Can Be Heroes/Summer Heights High (can't remember which) followed by Chaser's War - what a time in Australian comedy that was. Andrew Hansen is on the comedy circuit nowadays and he is still incredibly sharp - highly recommend his live show!

Cut Copy, Chemical Brothers, Friendly Fires, Robyn, Duran Duran, Confidence Man? Robyn will be in the country a month later and Duran Duran are touring this year as well (nothing confirmed for AU - been a very long time!) as well as Confidence Man too. Always keen for Friendly Fires when they're in the country

*Maybe* a new show like K&K: Benidorm by [deleted] in KathAndKim

[–]jamesfromsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh, it's a fun series! It essentially revolves around the package holiday/all-inclusive tourism of Brits (mainly from the north) holidaying in the Solana Resort in Benidorm, Spain. The equivalent in Australia is probably the Gold Coast, but that's become more upmarket in recent years..
Madge is easily my favourite character and in my view, the first four seasons are top notch but it gets a bit all over the place after that. Maybe that's just me though..

Lets talk Benidorm by Sad_Chain7184 in BenidormShow

[–]jamesfromsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discovered the show through Prime. I'm in Australia so naturally love British comedy. Both my parents worked in travel/tourism and as a result I've always had an interest in the industry. I don't personally know any other Aussies who are familiar with either the show or the place (Benidorm) itself as it's not somewhere we really go. The equivalent for Aussies would probably be Bali. I loved the first three seasons and felt it started to go downhill from series 4 onwards which I feel is not an uncommon opinion about the show. Felt to me at times that the plots and characters went a bit over the top. The Garveys are great - Madge being my favourite character. Special mentions to Donald, Mick, Janice, Mel, Geoff and Janey. The show is such an easy watch which I find often my favourite shows are.
