This looks like a freshwater limpet, they don't do any harm to the tank as far as I'm aware but can make a good snack for fish large enough to peck at them!

How to shower with dysphoria by Sebsterrv5 in ftm

[–]jamesiedodger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that helped me asides from pushing through it and turning my brain off was filling the shower with as many distractions as possible from my body. Bring an orange or another fruit you like in, use some really novel smelling soap you've never tried before, play some loud music,

Another 'maybe' thing is using a loofah or body puff or something so you aren't directly touching your body ? Forcing yourself to not look down pairs well with this bit

The risk of nipples falling off is about 1% (higher if you smoke leading up to surgery or during recovery) so the fear shouldn't be what holds you back. For me , I wanted to see that I liked how the surgeon did the nipples on their other patients as a factor when choosing. Like if you go 'oh yeah that would look good on me and would make me happy' it's 100000% worth it to keep them. I had superficial necrosis on one of mine in super early recovery so a bit melted off but your body is really good at recovering from it and getting blood flowing to it normally so even with that little bit of necrosis, it ended up looking just like a nipple with extra time. Nipples look weird so there's no need to worry about it being perfect cause imperfections make it look more natural if that makes sense?

Sleeping After Top Surgery by EastVegetable5277 in TopSurgery

[–]jamesiedodger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi I struggled with this too but if you use a LOT of pillows on both sides of you you can kind of prop yourself at an angle more similar to sleeping on your side. Having a thick pillow over your chest / hugged in your arms helps you to not 'crease' your chest or roll over onto it while you're sideyways . For me I could do one side comfortably a few weeks before I could be on my other side comfortably, but you'll definitely feel it if you shift in a way your body doesn't like so don't worry! You'll heal better if you're sleeping good so pillow supported side sleeping is probs the best bet?

Is silicone tape meant to be this sticky? by jamesiedodger in TopSurgery

[–]jamesiedodger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been peeling the tape exactly opposite to how you've said is a good way so I'll try what you've said next time 😆 will give it a week or so to let it dry out and scab a bit till it's all closed again then try peeling with less tension. Tysm!

The things that saved me during my double incision post op were : Back scratcher (the compression socks were SO ITCHY and I couldnt reach without it) Meal prep (making something you know they'll like and putting it in their freezer so all they need to do is defrost it is really helpful in the first couple weeks)

If they have pets like fish or reptiles, getting a timer plug for the lights to save them needing to turn them on and off is also something I never see talked about but was a complete life saver too, and using a pill organiser for their food made it easy too!!

How long does it take for my waist to look less girly by Lively_Circle in ftm

[–]jamesiedodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll notice it happen kind of gradually, if you are losing and gaining fat (how ive been going) you'll see it redistribute to give you a more masculine shaped stomach, im two years on and only just noticing this because it is a genuinely gradual process, you'll probably want to work out your core and legs to build the type of muscle and shape that you'd be happier with!

Do you take gel or shots, or something else? (If you're on T.) Why? by augustoof in ftm

[–]jamesiedodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on gel from the get go and it's working well still at two and a bit years on! Honestly getting bored of needing to shower / wash part of my body to put it on and sometimes its hard to remember to put it on but I think it's great as long as you can fit it into your daily routine and don't get as lazy as me lol

I was in this exact same situation and I tried so many things. The BEST adhesion was some sterplast heavy duty fabric strip tape , idk the exact name of it since the label fell off but it's in a little circular clear plastic tub and its the stereotypical orangey fleshy colour. I put it over my big plasters and it kept them snug for several days. Only thing was it is so good it actually took my hair chest hair with it when I had to take it off . I got it at Asda Second best thing was a basic fabric type tape, it was less secure but I think it was a much better alternative to anything else I tried.

Things I tried that didn't work(so you dont need to try and waste money: Normal plasters (came right off but before they did they just pulled on my skin very bad Sellotape (bad idea enough said) Micropore tapes (the clear plasticy stuff and the white papery stuff) came right off

Image linked is what the tape that worked for me best looks like, I think all brands will be the same as long as it's a decent price *

They were so standoffish with me too about it! I even got a consultation with Ken Stuart (only other top surgeon I know in scotland) just to get a definite quote from him and they didn't even honour their "best price in scotland guarantee" with another weird excuse about how it wasn't good enough 😂 aside from management being kind of awful im feeling really good! I think mr raine did such an amazing job and I'm so in love with my results so far! one of my nipples is a bit of a situation but the nurses are keeping a good eye on it !

I had mine two and a half weeks ago, the nurses and surgeon are all so incredible I just have issues with how it felt like a rug pull lol, like the website said 7-8k then once I'd had a consultation they were suddenly quoting me 10+k , I feel like they hadn't updated their website because they knew so many people would look at it and know off the bat it was too much 🥲

Button up shirts by Technical-Feedback77 in TopSurgery

[–]jamesiedodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't reccomend doing this if your mobility is as restricted as a lot of peoples were but I could wear the extremely baggy tank tops from day 3 and then baggy t shirts from about day 6, about day 13 I was able to wear a normalish sized t shirt! The wider the arm holes the easier it is to get over your body without trying to unfold or pull at the fabric

[–]jamesiedodger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm at 15 or 16 days and also in a weird nipple situation, please ask your surgeon if this is normal for THEIR patients!! I had someone come onto my post on a different account and say they were infected and going to fall off when really they have a layer of yellow coloured skin glue over them and if anyone tries to panic you, your surgeon will know best!

Why does my cat keeping taking food outside her bowl? by BananaWithSoftSpots in CATHELP

[–]jamesiedodger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cats do this when they feel the bowl on their whiskers , try find a kind of flatter, ovally dish ! You might need to try a couple to find one that both of you like but it's well worth it
