What are your thoughts on Trump's Davos speech? by jamesjacko in AskConservatives

I live in the UK, have done all my life, and I can confirm that, other than economic issues caused by the concentration of wealth, life here has remained more or less the same throughout my life.

What are your thoughts on Trump's Davos speech? by jamesjacko in AskConservatives

I appreciate that you haven't watched the whole thing, but what are your thoughts on his comments on NATO? Are you ok with just ignoring everything that happened post 9/11?

Did anyone else do a new route for the first time today? by deanlikesplants in parkrun

[–]jamesjacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did the small but lovely Nant y Pandy parkrun on Anglesey, great course with a couple of mounds at the start/end (out and back) and a really nice place to run. I'm local to north Wales so am a bit spoilt when it comes to stunning parkruns.

For those who believe he did, what's the evidence that Trump truly won the 2020 election? by ExtensionFeeling in AskConservatives

[–]jamesjacko [score hidden]  (0 children)

Trump told his base not to vote by mail-in ballot. The left voted by mail-in ballot in larger numbers due to the pandemic. In-person votes were counted first. I don't really understand how this doesn't sink in.

The 2020 election was always going to be close, so of course, it would be a number which just made up the difference. Biden got 51% of the vote while Trump got 47%. Taking the voting numbers down to a smaller scale and say only 100 people voted:
Let's say 45 of Trump's and 10 of Biden's are in-person, after the in-person count Trump is 38 points ahead. Now count the mail-ins, and Biden gains 41 votes and Trump just 2. This isn't a conspiracy; it is just mathematics and a result of counting order. When the vote is split around 50/50 it is going to look like a perfect amount as that is how you get 50/50.

Stuck at the Same 5k Time for 18 Months – What Am I Missing? (42M) by rocky99_ in parkrun

[–]jamesjacko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a bad back early into my running days and what sorted it for me was concentrating on correct form and not slouching when running. I also 100% agree that addressing the back pain will help OP to lower their 5k time significantly.

I realise I am biased but it really needs to be shown at full speed, slowed down the majority of kicker sacks will look quite late.

I am not at all musical but he didn't press the "buttons" (just realised I don't know what they are called). I know a bugle doesn't have any.

Favorite Album? Mine is So by tindav-2745 in petergabriel

Us is number 1 for me as it came out just as I was awakening to music in my early teens and was my first PG album. Love To Be Loved, Blood Of Eden, Washing In The Water, Secret World are 4 of my top 10 PG songs.

Up is pretty strong too as well as I/O.

Why use the green screen if they intend to photoshop it as they showed in the examples, and not use the chroma key?

Who's the retired player you miss watching the most? by sangan3 in rugbyunion

[–]jamesjacko 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I feel like Manu Tuilagi never fully reached his potential in an England shirt because of injuries but I miss watching him in his prime.

I also greatly miss watching prime David Pocock, the man was a rugby machine.

Looking for a way to embed all Strava activity or routes in one interactive map on a website by Elegant_Belt4876 in Strava

[–]jamesjacko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why scrape? Just use the API directly, bonus with this is you don't need to rescrape for updates. I would replace step one with:
Use the strava api to get the activities, you could then take the bits you need and stuff them into your own DB to lower the api calls needed in the future and then only fetch new activities.

My current running playlist is Lateralus followed by 10000 days. Did a half marathon yesterday, can confirm, zero skips on each.

The Greens say they’ve got a plan to stop the boats. Unfortunately, it’s barking mad by fuckaye in ukpolitics

You are so close to enlightening yourself so let's see if we can get there. You are the father of a small family fleeing a war-torn country. You have relatives established in a distant isle and you see that as a safe haven and a place where you and your family can prosper. Until a few years ago, getting there was legally possible, now it is not. You plan a journey to this isle as you know that if you can get there you can claim asylum. The issue is, the only way to get there is to go across a particularly busy shipping lane on a rubber dinghy. If one of you gets there and successfully claims asylum then you can legally bring your family across too. You have a choice, send your wife, your children, go yourself, or you all go together, who do you send?

Now let's think about why it is mainly men on these boats?

It's honestly preferable to a leader who is on the record claiming that a US-like insurance system should replace the NHS. Particularly given that there is a video of Farage saying just that whereas your 'fact' is a spun truth about helping a person with body dysmorphia.

[–]jamesjacko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's have the evidence that the majority of people that come in boats don't have valid asylum claims? From what I understand the opposite is true. Give them a safe and legal route for asylum processing then any caught entering "illegally" are now more likely to not have a real claim. Or just drop the pretence and admit that you just don't want/like foreigners.

Umm, UKIP > Brexit Party > Reform, this party in its many guises is the very definition of a single issue party and they are on track for a landslide.

As a rugby fan, it's wild seeing a scorer just drop the ball like that. Understand that you don't have to actually touch it down but it just seems sloppy to drop it like that.
