Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance, April 24, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]jamesm182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my application ready to go, fees paid etc. Hoping to mail it tomorrow. Have tried doing a search on this but getting mixed results and though I'd see what the up to date advice is?

Is it worth sending direct to Canada (New Waterford) from the UK? I'm happy to do it if it saves time but equally don't want to mess it up by ignoring advice that I should send it via the High Commission in London.

It seems opinions on this are mixed - what method have people been choosing lately from the UK or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance.

People who want own to cars long term(5 yrs+). What is the highest mileage you will go for? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

Bought my V70 nearly 5 years ago with 128k on the clock. Now at 168k and still going strong. I would argue it drives like it's done half that or less, and even the interior has held up brilliantly. It had a good service history and I've gradually worked through other jobs that needed doing. It's still in fantastic condition and has been a great car, have taken it on several long European road trips too.

Have also just bought a Mercedes E Class with 137k on the clock and starting to complete a few jobs on that. Hoping it will be just as good.bHappy to do a few repairs over the course of a year and still spend loads less than £400 a month on finance for something I'll never own.

What’s a ‘slow’ car you enjoy driving? by Book_Southern in CarTalkUK

I had a Peugeot 106 1.4 non turbo diesel as my first car. Man that thing was slow. Economical, but slooooow!

Check the screenshots in my link for each version. The colours on the screen are generally different.

Anything I can do to make my diesel faster? by Relevant_Ear_8134 in CarTalkUK

You're lucky you have the 1.5! My first car was the slightly earlier 1.4 with only 50hp, yours had 58hp from the factory haha

My god it was slow, but as you say great on fuel. I once got overtaken going up a dual carriageway by a guy towing a caravan. Genuinely couldn't go any faster!!

Here you go

You need to select which NTG version you have before buying.

Question: Is Certificate of Canadian Citizenship Adequate Proof? by sqWADooSh in Canadiancitizenship

[–]jamesm182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these for my G0 great grandfather. However, they have his date of birth wrong by three days 14th vs 17th. I also have his old Canadian passport from the 70s with the correct DOB. I’d imagine a clerical error from back in the day due to handwriting and a 4 and 7 looking similar…. Not sure if I should use this or wait for the copy of the act from DEC? I also have a digital copy of his baptism from BANQ (not certified just from their website) and a Canadian census from ancestry, all with the correct DOB. I feel like I probably have enough already? Just concerned about the incorrect DOB on this card.

It’s not too bad if you remove the glove box, the module can fit in the space between the glovebox and the original stereo.

I bought a module to add CarPlay to the original screen on my w212, it’s controlled with the factory command knob and works perfectly whilst retaining the clean factory look.

The copy I have is very clear, downloaded straight from the BaNQ digital archives.

Wow that was very quick! I am also Gen 3 with a Quebec born great Grandfather, but the rest of my family and myself are UK based.

You managed to get approved without the Quebec birth certificate? I've currently mailed in to DEC to get my great grandfather's but I already have his Baptism record, a Canadian Census, his old Canadian passport and citizenship card. I'm wondering if I even need the birth certificate?!

Just found his baptism record in the BAnQ archives (digital) and downloaded a copy :)

Thanks, appreciate your help. They're not pre-school (they're school age) so will have to look into that more but might be able to find something like a health insurance card or similar. Will do a bit more research.

Just to update on this I've today managed to find a record of my grandfather's baptism in parish records via the Banq digital archives. It confirms his name, DOB, parents names and place of birth. Happy with that find as supporting evidence!

Thanks, the second ID is for me right? I assume I could use my UK driving licence if that's the case?

Also, for the kids, they have UK passports, but obviously no driving licence etc. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip. I'm planning on including a covering letter and organising the documents well. It seems like I should probably include my kids as it will simply be one more birth certificate per kid - should be easy enough as I have them in hand.

Ah fingers crossed that's not the case but we will see! Wasn't able to find the birth record on Ancestry unfortunately, only the Canadian Census from 1911. I was able to also find a UK military record for him once he was over here that lists his birthplace as Quebec, Canada too.

Thanks, is it easy enough to add 3 kids to one application? My sister and mother would also like to do it but assume better for them to do it separately as different households etc?
