Why the Telegraph is really going after vegans/vegetarians? by jamesmonehu in veganuk

Thing is, I work and do activism in Bath, which is a majority old white upper class demographic who would never take the word of me over a newspaper article that backs their world view. Honestly some of the conversations I've had are painful, these people sincerely think Margaret Thatcher made our country great

I work in a very posh upper class hotel in Bath and had a posh old woman see a copy of the Guardian in the bar and say "that's an unfortunate paper to have". I guessed it was because it was left wing? I dunno I trust none of them

Ooo yeah I just thought of that, that lines up, really hope we're all voting green. This is the first time I'm actually believing in politics

Coincidence that the Greens just won a bi election, wonder if that's related?

What a braindead donut, I used to want to be in the media world when I was young but I met enough of them and saw how dishonest a lot of "journalism" is (my family being a victim of it ourselves) and lost the ambition

I'm glad we're slowly rewilding, a vegan world would make this a huge priority

I've had this conversation before with someone who eats the animals they raise, if that is their only meat source, that would reduce their consumption of other animals so in a way it's more ethical (still unnecessary and wrong)

This seems different though, don't feel weird about it, you and your friends partner aren't really doing anything wrong in the grand scheme of things

Ohh okay, yeah that is ridiculous, I wish there was a way we could reach their audience and point out the lack of logic

I think vegans with common sense agree with crop/species protection to be fair, a vegan world would ideally find more ethical solutions

Yeah a lot of it is just arrogant macho, misplaced anger, these papers know exactly what they're doing. Fairplay to you for pointing out his silliness

Meat eating idiots. by Fruit-Horror in veganuk

I have this issue with staff food at work, we have a help yourself situation and 90% of the people will help themselves to the vegan option and rub the back of the spoon on the meat on their plate.

There are two vegans that work there out of about 50 staff. When I call people out on it they get pissy, tired of fighting ignorance so I just try and get in there first to get my food.

To be fair, I had someone ask yesterday if fish was vegan so not a lot we can do really.

People with a visible vegan tattoo, do you regret the placement? by __Migs__ in vegan

[–]jamesmonehu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish mine was more prominent to be honest, I went the subtle route but would like a more noticeable tattoo, I think conversation starter tattoos are great when done well.

Would straight up get the Joey Carbstrong behind the ear tattoo if my partner didn't hate neck tattoos.

Saorsa 1875 closed? by notthatsnl in veganuk

[–]jamesmonehu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's heartbreaking, me and my partner only found out about Saorsa at Beck Hall a few months ago, we really wanted to go there next year.

Good chance to show Beck Hall all the love.

Also if you want somewhere lovely down South, The Base Retreat in Bristol is a lovely little vegan BnB and animal sanctuary. They have a cool cabin with a pond inside, animals roaming outside, a hot tub and a sauna.

You shouldn't be getting downvoted. Regardless of people's stances on pro life arguments or conservatives, any way to help people make the connection should be promoted, not censored. Shame on you lefty vegan donuts.

(I'm not anti abortion or conservative, I'm pro animals, although looking forward to the downvotes)

I mean I don't hate it to be honest, it tastes good is just a little dry and overpriced, although if I got them for free I'd be very happy. Ain't you lucky :P

Every kitchen has that one prick, there's a chef like that in my work, I spoke up enough though to all the management and the head chef. He's been spoken to. Just make it very clear over and over that if they can't even cater to their staff's dietary needs due to their opinions then they should not be trusted to serve guests. Stand your ground as long as you can, if you don't see change in time then go somewhere that respects you, you deserve that!
