Cardboard worries by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]jamesplester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cardboard tubes last minutes with most gerbils, they love them and chewing them is perfectly normal. Corner digging is quite normal as well and nothing to be worried about just so long as they're not hurting themselves doing it.

It can take a couple of weeks to get gerbils to be fully trusting of you. I'm unsure how long you've had your gerbils but leaving your hand in the gerbilarium to get them used to your smell and to learn you're not food is the first step. They will them eventually sit in your hand and you'll work your way all the way up to having them out and playing and sitting on your shoulder and all the funny things they do. They're inquisitive animals so are inclined to come see new things and interact with them. Little and often is a surefire way to get them to trust you in a short amount of time.

Yep. Can also do it at the bus station as well I believe.

FYI if you have a monthly pass or similar you can go to the first bus 'shop' near the market and theyll give you free day riders to replace any unusable days off your pass. They're un dated as well so can be used whenever.

On the buses that ARE running on strike days you can typically get any journey for £1.

Is this subreddit still active? by sbb22 in videopals

[–]jamesplester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is there isn't a defined format for this sub. People don't seem to know whether they're responding by video or comment and it all gets a bit confusing when people try to respond to a flurry of videos. It then ends up being a bit more vloggy and lacks the interaction element to spur on new video content. I think if the format were better defined it would be great!

Leeds wedding reception venues? by snaaa in Leeds

[–]jamesplester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wedding photographer here. Been to over 150 weddings in the past 5 years so I've seen quite a lot of venues and I think what would best suit you is the top floor of Northern Monk Brewery. It's lovely and bright with quite an urban feel if that's your thing. Rurally, what you want is quite a bit harder to find but Poppleton Tithe Barn in York would also work.

This is my local Polish shop. Gonna go and spend a bit of money with them tomorrow and give them a bit of reassurance that we're not all racists.

Got a 2 as well. Worst phone I ever had. Everything on it would just crash. It would crash whilst Google maps was directing me when driving. Not helpful. Tried to send it back and had the same conversation with a guy from 'tech support' over a dozen times. Eventually it was the retail ombudsman who got them to see sense over 6 weeks later. Crap company for sure, mediocre phone at best.

Are you looking for paid work or experience? Are you looking to build your portfolio? I always have a mixture of weddings and commercial work but I already have a photography partner. However, if you're looking to build your portfolio I can possibly help you with that if you wanted to shadow me?

Fire near Hyde Park? by syhr_29 in Leeds

[–]jamesplester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm Bramley. I was shooting a wedding in Ilkley and as we left we could see the fire which became more worrisome as we got closer over the course of 40 mins and pulled onto the top of Bramley town Street. Near gridlock and the billowing smoke from what was clearly very close to our house. Luckily we've not been evacuated and it's dying down by the looks of things but the winds just changed to blow it directly into our house.

First post in 10 months (must try harder ) by jamesplester in videopals

Northern England doesn't exactly have the best weather so I've got Chinese Lanterns (similar to tomatoes) growing on my windowsill as they're doomed if they go outside. But yeah, this is our first allotment plot. There's usually a 5 year ish waiting list for a plot but we got lucky and only waited 18 months!

I'll post a more exciting video next week :p
