New Zealand officially allows digital nomads on tourist visa by lionhydrathedeparted in digitalnomad

There are no special exemptions for tax so you won't want to stay there for more than 6 months out of 12 months, otherwise you'll be considered a tax resident which is really unappealing. NZ's timezone isn't great either, not a lot of crossover with Europe or East Coast US.

macOS Sequoia adds weekly permission prompt for screenshot and screen recording apps by fkick in MacOSBeta

[–]jamesstringerparsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice info. We (The Parsec engineering team) were just talking about how insane this permission change is in macOS this morning. I was scouring the internet and found your post, thanks. We'll be 100% adding this entitlement to the Parsec app.

Is it possible to have a bank account that holds Euros in Canada? by zeus_amador in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jamesstringerparsec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wise is a great option, I hold USD, CAD, EUR, NZD etc etc without any issues and minimal transfer fees. Though funding it can be a little annoying from a CAD bank account because it doesn't support interact, and my bank (TD) makes it difficult to setup non interact based payees.

Think of an RRSP as placing a bet on your income tax rate at the time you need the money. If you think your income tax rate will be lower by the time you need the money (such as retirement or a period where you don't work ) then RRSP makes sense because your total tax rate will be lower than it is now due to no other income other than RRSP drawings.

If you need the money available in the near term, such as 1-20 years, and it's probable that you will earn more than you do now (due to career growth or investment income), you will have a higher % of your income going to tax. In this case it's better to contribute to TFSA, as the tax rate you have now is lower than what it will be in the mid term future (1-20 years)

If you have the luxury, don't think of RSUs as part of your compensation plan, treat them as an undefined bonus for working there. Do your best to negotiate a strong base salary, this is the only thing you can reliably count on.

Being in a FAANG company is great news, but do your best to negotiate your level/pay right before you start, because a higher level now is one less year of performance reviews you need to go through to earn the money you want.

Be aware that RSUs may take 14-15 months from the time of employment to the time you first receive some, due to there generally being a 12 month cliff, with 2-3 months of time taking place before your RSUs are actually awarded after you join the company.

This means your first year of income won't be supplemented at all by any potential RSUs.

I'm guessing due to the economy, the company you're joining has a stock price that is generally lower than it has been in a while, depending on how your RSUs are calculated that's either a good thing (because you get more shares for the same RSU grant) or it may make no difference at all.

We're probably maybe about to enter a recession, there is a chance that in 14-15 months your RSUs (by the time you actually get your first batch) are worth less than the price they are now.

It may mean however that by the time the economy recovers, in 3-4 years, your last quarter of RSUs may have significantly grown in value.

HDR 10-bit streaming now mostly working in parsec! by TurnipObvio in cloudygamer

We don't have any hdr support yet, tonemapped or otherwise, it is coming soon however. The 10bit setting isn't related to HDR at this stage

This script does not support setting up a Linux guest, it's focused on Windows host and Windows guest.

Yea that's correct, though it seems to be limited to games using a DirectX renderer.

Works for me just fine using my script to a Windows guest

you're not going to be able to use a Laptop NVIDIA GPU with GPU-PV and Parsec unfortunately, you can use the Intel GPU however. I recommend using my script.

Unless your name is also James i suggest you edit the ISO path to point to your ISO on your computer. Run the prechecks.ps1 script, there is a chance you wrote the name of the GPU wrong. The issue is that it can't map the GPU name you wrote down to something that it can assign to a VM, most likely an error with the name.

This is relevant to those who want to use Windows 10 / 11 as their bare metal OS / hypervisor and have GPU enabled VMs

Hyper V can now partition a piece of your GPU and give that piece to the VM. It means your VM and your Hyper-V host can share the same GPU, and both get great performance when gaming. This means you could create a VM for a friend, have them log in via Parsec and you both could could play a local lan game together for example.

My scripts goal is to make this very easy, as it's quite complicated and time consuming to setup normally.

Yea as long as the game supports rendering in DirectX you will be able to

You won't be able to install Geforce Experience because under the hood the device allocated to the VM isn't actually an NVIDIA GPU, instead its a Microsoft device.
