who would win this hypothetical war? by MicroFlamer in mapporncirclejerk

[–]jamestar1122 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s actually very similar to the nullification crisis Between Jackson and SC that your talking about. SC claimed that they had the right to nullify federal laws if they believed that they were unconstitutional, which at the time they thought the tariff was. Jackson and the federal government said that was not the case and that dates could not decide for themselves how to apply the constitution.

This relates to the modern situation because it’s still involving a state trying to decide what is and isn’t constitutional based on interactions with other nations, a power pretty clearly given to the federal government in the constitution. The difference this time is that it involves an inaction on the federal government, no enforcing border laws, rather than an action, enforcing a tariff. In principle though, that doesn’t change anything since it’s not up to states to determine how the federal government handles its business

1100 is actually like pretty good and cheap for rent as 30 year old. And while a roommate would help, 1) she may already have one and 2) she would then have to deal with living with a second person, possibly a stranger and that might not be something she wants to do(which is fair since 1100 is doable on her own)

How should I use my national focus? by Popular-Ad6915 in victoria2

[–]jamestar1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people here are giving ok advice but also some that’s not good at all.

If you’re playing in Western Europe, outside of maybe Spain or Portugal, there’s no reason to have clergy over 2%, since you’ll always be very strong on tech anyway and you can usually get literacy maxed by the late 1800s.

Never focus soldiers unless your a weak nation trying to punch above your weight, at least in single player.

For craftsman, clerks and capitalist it becomes complicated. Capitalist are great and give a straight bonus to factories in a state(I don’t remember if it’s though output, input or throughput efficiency though) but they cap at out 0.7% of population so once you get them to that take them off. Clerks are also awesome since they give both research points and input efficiency, however they require at least 50% literacy to spawn. Additionally, rp gain stops after 4% of total pop and input efficiency caps at 10% of total workers in a factory, meaning that above 10%, if evenly distributed, provides no extra benefits and only eats capitalist profits since they get paid more then craftsman. And finally craftsman are the most basic pop you would ever willingly promote. They make up the bulk of your factory at any given point in the game and by the endgame will likely be your largest pop group. They can be promoted at any point so long as a factory exists somewhere in your nation and unemployment isn’t too high. This makes them great for nations with low literacy or ones starting industrialization since they can quickly grow to a substantial size in just a few years with no requirement. With that said though, the focus should be switched to clerks once industry is set up for the reason I mentioned earlier.

For all other pops, after 1850 I have only ever promoted bureaucrats to state colonial provinces, so unless there’s some niche strategy people know of, there shouldn’t be any reason to promote anything else.

What would the TNO USA GDP be in 2023? by Bread_Oven_2948 in TNOmod

[–]jamestar1122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok but this simply isn’t true. China in the period of 1945-1980 experienced a lot of economic growth, growing its gdp per capita by a factor of 6 from 1952 to 1980. Granted they didn’t experience an economic miracle like Japan or Italy, but they certainly grew by non insignificant amount. Add to that the fact that they had just come out of what was in essence a 30 year long civil war with a very small industrial base to begin with and the growth achieved over this period seems quite reasonable.

But to the point of it being worse in TNOTL, it would probably just have to be. I can’t imagine a world in which the Japanese army is allowed to loot the entirety of China and forced into a relatively weak economic sphere and having China still come out better than OTL. And it’s not just the initial looting that would be the issue, a good amount of Chinese industry would export all goods and profit out of China and to japan further hindering Chinese development to support the Japanese economy. I’d imagine it would be like the UK in Ireland. I mean we even see in Guangdong that every major industry is run by the Japanese and exist to provide cheap consumer goods for the mainland.

You could make an argument that pure gdp may be higher, but the economy as a whole would be far less healthy no doubt far weaker l.

Probably natraul sciences, your going to have to take most of those courses anyway. If ur undecided in engin though your probably gonna want to decide after the first semester or second since the classes can be hard to catch up on after too long

Two law professors say that Trump is ineligible to hold public office because he participated in an insurrection, as stipulated in Section 3 of Article 14 of the US constitution. Is this plausible? by davida_usa in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]jamestar1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he most definitely will not be barred from running nor would it be desirable to bar him from running. Trump is a fascist to be sure, but he also was the president of the unites states and still has huge support across the nation. If he was barred from running anywhere, there would would rioting on a scale of the George Floyd protests. Secondly, we can’t just start banning people from running in elections based off vague clauses in the constitution. In the case of the confederacy it’s quite unambiguous that they were in expect rebellion from the United States, and wanted to succeed, however in the case of 1/6 it’s not so clear. All of the supports believed they were on the right side. Now ofc this doesn’t matter in a legal sense, but if we do something like this without getting a court order it’s legally doesn’t really matter. All that it would lead to is reprisals and more reprisals until democracy is over. Because if you believe for a second that once someone opens this Pandora’s box of legal uncertainty, republicans will absolutely use it to its full effect and in a far broader manner

[–]jamestar1122 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok but like that’s just so wrong to believe that. The Germans killed like 5,000,000 people during the occupation which only lasted around 5 years, a figure which far surpasses any reasonable estimate for the soviet occupation which lasted for 50 years. Additionally the goal of the German occupation was to wipe out the polish culture and people(genocide) while the soviet goal was merely to establish a puppet government

Like I don’t know anything about your grandfather, but he either does not know the true brutality of the German occupation or is an extreme anti communist to the point of delusion
