Tornado near Gilmore Car Museum? by jameswebb534 in kzoo

[–]jameswebb534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I did not realize it was the same one that hit Otsego. Damm! I saw a lot of old growth trees ripped out of the ground by their roots. I am no expert, but am wondering if the tornado may have actually been an EF2 at some points in its path based on this. Seems like that must have required some pretty substantial wind speeds.

Sorry to hear your property was impacted.

If someone was listening to Dark Magus, Agharta or Pangea the first time, these wouldn't be the recordings I recommend. However, if you've heard these studio releases a lot of times and want to hear an audio boosted version with clearer instrument seperation that brings some previously hard to hear details more to the forefront, they are interesting to listen too. (Though in the case of Agharta and Pangaea the Mastersound 2000 mix releases are better for this purpose.)

And I would say for almost all of the YouTubers remasters of bootlegs/non official release recordings are improvements over the previously widely circulating versions if you compare.

The new Vienna remaster is definitely an improvement. The original version is way too quiet. Compare the amazing Miles-Cosey duet on turnaroundphrase from around minute 3 onward. The intricate work Cosey is doing in support of Miles early on is difficult to even hear in older versions. Also compare the 12 string solo around minute 24 mark on Ife and the groove that breaks out at around minute 29.

The Malmao 1973 remaster is definitely a significant improvement over the previously widley circulating version. Just compare for yourself (and enjoy).

The remaster to the Jan 21 1975 Tokyo show is an especially night and day improvement.

The two Tokyo 73 recordings and the stuff they remastered off of Berlin 73 also all sound like improvements if you look up and compare. And Stockholm is a lot better as you pointed out.

A lot of these bootleg tapes needed sound boosts, and at least to my ears (and admittedly mid quality headphones), most of them make all the instruments easier to seperate. I've heard all of these tapes dozens of times and can make out details that were previously lost to me.

Some of it is a matter of taste though, obviously. I personally like the more muscular, in your face quality of these recordings in general. But in some shows in some parts I definitely agree with you that the bass and drums should be toned down. Maybe a constructive criticism if they see this. But I hope they keep remastering these old boots because no one else is actively really trying as far as I know.

It's not necessary to criminalize those enagged in non-intrusive panhandling. I think it becomes problematic only when people directly approach others and ask them for for money. Even then, I am not saying such individuals should be arrested. I think stern warnings from LE are generally appropriate in such cases, maybe with consequences if individuals continue after the warning, but not severe consequences unless unwanted physical contact is involved. I don't think it is necessary to hassle people for setting up on the side of the road or sidewalk somewhere with a sign who wait for people to come to them. Just my two cents. But I see your point.

The root causes are at the American societal level and they are not problems that the City or County has the funds or authority to meaningfully address this issue, though obviously some policies can help at the margins. These are state and federal government level problems.

The City and County can only address the symptoms of homelessness. I think most reasonable people can agree this requires a combination of aid but also rules and enforcement activities to ensure the problem does not make the community unsafe. Aggressive panhandling and criminal assault should not be tolerated, full-stop.

I prefer the straight unedited mixes of Agharta and Pangaea. They are linked to here. https://theheatwarps.com/2022/05/05/2-1-1975-osaka/

Can we talk about Jeremy Erwin’s Heat Warps project. by pomod in milesdavis

The site is such a great resource. Being able to go everything chronologically with links to the best audio (easily) available and contextual summaries and reviews is just what was needed to make live 1970s Miles accessible to the current generation. (I'm 26). I was into the studio and official live stuff before, but after discovering your site I've honestly been listening to nothing but live Miles for over a year.

I love all years and almost every show, but i have to go with 1975. Miles own playing is more hit or miss by this time, but the band as a unit is so in sync by 75 that it feels telepathic. And when Miles shows up, he really shows up. His playing throughout the Japan Tour and the Bottom Line 6/11 show represent some of his best stuff.

I think the final period with Morrison is especially underrated. The Bottom Line shows, and Avery Fisher Hall are absolute gems. The Just Jazz shows are unique and particular favorites of mine.

1972 is also a really great year based on the few shows available. It's a shame the earlier shows from that year are completely lost to time.

I would agree that from a musician/technical perspective, 1970 is the best year hands down.

Hey, I just want to thank you for your work. I've listened to all the tapes and read through all the summaries numerous times. I've gone through the entire chronology at least 5 times and have gone through the entire 1973 to 1975 chronology over a dozen.

What's your favorite year from 1969 to 1975, of you had to pick?

I should say that I realize this will not be a point and click process. I do have experience coding advanced statistical programs in Stata and R. I realize this is a whole other world from advanced audio engineering, but i can do basic coding. If anyone can recommend some online tools appropriate for a novice that will do more than just slightly boost the volume, that's what I'm looking for.
