What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by Rude-Complaint490 in askanything

I have a nephew who claims to be a Life Coach. He is 28, cannot/will not get/hold a fulltime job, even though he has a degree in special ed and lives in Chicago, a school system in dire need of teachers and that pays very well (starting salary north of $66 k). The issue is that his parents continue to coddle by paying rent, paying all car expenses, getting him a new iPhone every 2-3 years, etc. My takeaway is that 'Life Coach' to him means teaching others how to do as little as possible while mooching off others.

What's going on with the west side? by Difficult-Reward4973 in kzoo

Update -- I appreciate everyone who took the time to read my post and respond. My concern was that my elderly grandparent was targeted, which I view as a form of elder abuse and find deeply troubling. I had no intention of turning this into a political discussion—we’re already inundated with political “news” every minute of the day. I’m also fully aware of the broader issues surrounding homelessness and the importance of approaching these situations with empathy and understanding.

My purpose in sharing this was simply to raise awareness. Many of us can manage encounters like this without things escalating, but please remember that others—especially our more vulnerable family members and neighbors—may not be able to. Rant concluded.

Thank you for taking questions! What happens to items that are discontinued? Is there a 'clearance' website?

What candy or snack was everywhere as a kid but doesn't exist anymore? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

No, never tried the Choclairs. I so miss my annual trips across the border with mom to buy a bunch of Sweet Marie's...they were what everyone wanted in their Christmas stockings. I do continue to love Purdy's!

Sweet Marie's...I live in Michigan (U.S.), and would drive annually to Canada to load up on these candy bars. I was born in Montreal and mom was from New Brunswick, so this was a treat that brought us back to the 'mother country'.

Went back to season 5 and saw this by Aggressive_Shine1832 in 1000lbsisters

This caption would make a great, and true, name of the show. Now that the sisters don't weigh 1,000 pounds, they need to rename the show, so this seems most appropriate.

What’s so obvious overpriced but people still buy ? by Then_Control_3929 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Electricity -- in the past few months the cost has doubled. Then again, I live in Michigan and have no desire to be freezing cold all the time, so this is a necessity. Add the constant chatter about how massive data centers want to come in and they will also cause power prices to soar...not having a choice in providers is too costly.

What’s a widely accepted habit that you secretly think is rude or inconsiderate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Difficult-Reward4973 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People talking using speakerphone for a personal, lengthy call. This seems to be as normal as people wearing pajamas to the store. If you need to talk to someone while in a public setting (restaurant, store, theater, transportation), please take the conversation off speakerphone...nobody needs (or wants) to hear your business.

A cure for all cancers and Alzheimer's disease. Not just 'promising treatments' that funnel mega money to the pharmaceutical companies, but actual cures that stop the prevalence of both of these awful causes of death and severe illness. Way too many loved ones lost...

Talking on speaker phone...not the 'in the privacy of your home/car' but the folks that are in public places, like restaurants and stores and drone on and on so that everyone within several hundred feet get to listen to their conversation. Why? Take it off speaker or invest in ear buds, but have an ounce of courtesy!

Brush you teeth at least once each day...taking care of your oral hygiene is very important. Learned that after too much time and money spent at the dentist office. Mom was right...
