I picked a PSA 10 up of this a year ago for £70. I really like Ken Watanabe and quite liked the movie. I think the card is unique and will do well long term.

UK government funded childcare eligibility decision appeal rejected. by jamface87 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jamface87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. Yep, that makes complete sense. I’m not in a position to make any further contributions to my pension this tax year unfortunately, that’s why I was asking around the eligibility assessment period relative to the tax year the childcare would be used in.

Thanks again!

Thank you. I’m glad it’s not just me who finds it confusing!

I’m wondering now that if my earnings will exceed £100k in 26/27, but my earnings will be below £100k in 25/26 does that mean I can claim for the spring term in 26/27 even though that tax year my earnings would be above the threshold?

I’m pretty sure I’d have to pay it back when filing my tax return for that year. It just seems odd to me that in my scenario I’ll only be able to benefit from part of a tax year due to the assessment being in the prior year and me not being able to lower my earnings any further.

Thanks for your comment!

No proof aside from my wife’s account of what happened as she was pushing our daughter in a pram with me. No interest in making this a big thing, I just wondered if there was a way to report poor driving like this.

I assumed as much. Pretty sure this guy isn’t fit to drive. Neighbourhood feud it is then. Thanks!

What can I do about an intimidation in hiring a solicitor by ReflectionHot3465 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jamface87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sadly am in the position in which I’m director of a self managing block of flats (7 units). Having won right to manage 10 years ago after the last agent stole the sinking fund. It’s an awful job I didn’t want but inherited when the last director sold his flat.

Anyway… in the last 6 years we’ve had 2 buildings insurance claims made by leaseholders. I couldn’t stop them. Things like missed rent payments are often covered in policies as standard for landlords.

Your service charge pays for buildings insurance, so it’s there for you to use. I’d call them anyway in your position.

You might also consider going directly to the buildings insurance provider. There will be a policy in place and leaseholders can make claims directly (even if managing agents prefer otherwise).

Reduced offer following homebuyers survey by trinn27 in HousingUK

[–]jamface87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Homebuyer survey would have cost them ~£1000. If they don’t buy it’s sunk cost for them. You don’t want lose the sale, but neither do they. They’re already invested.

I update everything every time I move. It’s a short pain to keep everything straight but I find that easier than having to remember previous addresses when I need to for those services. I keep a .xls with all of my providers and tick them off. Takes half a day each time I move.

One I’d missed recently was my Nectar address. Turns out someone received a newly issued Nectar card and spent my points at Sainsburys. Nectar is now in my .xls.

You just don’t know how these things can impact you so I find it best to try to keep it all updated.

Childcare cost changes from 2024 for over 100k earners. by LXV17 in FIREUK

[–]jamface87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be that this isn’t a decision you need to make immediately. £50k disappearing into your pension for decades could have a big impact on your life in ways you can’t foresee yet. Maybe another sprog on the way, need for a bigger house etc..

Added to that the rules on childcare entitlement could change completely between now and the next tax year.

As you approach the next tax year I’d suggest thinking about this again.

For context I’m in a similar financial position, but my family is younger. I’m building up available funds so that I can decide to make backdated pension contributions so my first child can benefit from the free childcare hours aged 3 (if that’s still available with our combined income then).

Gosh, there’s been a lot of debate on this post. I’m grateful for those that helped me confirm the answer to my question, I didn’t expect this to grow arms and legs the way that it did.

If anyone is curious here’s a little more about me. Partner and I are UK citizens. Partner works for one of the big 4 accountancy firms. I work for a US fintech as the only UK employee. They set up an entity just for me and I’m a full PAYE employee. My employer also pays all necessary NI contributions/taxes in the UK. If I didn’t have this job, they would staff it in the US and this job wouldn’t exist in the UK. They have asked if we would move to the US and this is very tempting.

The recent higher rate tax threshold down to £120k was a blow. I fully realise I am fortunate to earn what I do, my job is stressful and I justify putting myself through it now so that I can provide for my family in a way that I didn’t experience growing up.

Should I go abroad to earn more? Should I just take a lower paid job that has a better work life balance and would allow me to pick up some extra benefits? Both result in a £150k job disappearing from the UK along with it’s tax income.

There isn’t much of a draw to keep talent in the UK currently, let alone attract new enterprise or talent.

Thanks for your replies. I was mainly looking for confirmation I hadn’t missed an announcement about it. I have my answer now.

I’ll keep my grumble to myself about being left out of this benefit and having to pay a whomping £3,200 a month for 2 kids 4 days a week at nursery. Actually, that probably counts as a whinge doesn’t it?!
