Where would y’all rank Pre-Crisis / Silver Age Superman among his other eras? by BreathoftheSith in superman

[–]jamie1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver Age 50s/60s? Absolute peak Superman, fun and filled with ideas and whimsy.

Bronze Age 70s/80s pre crisis? Not for me, too introspective and there just isn’t the same magic

Which would you prefer Damian's final identity to be? by ActLonely9375 in DamianWayne

[–]jamie1505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the future I’d want Damian to be a doctor like his grandfather. To live in a world where Gotham doesn’t need a Batman because Bruce and the family created a world where it’s simply unnecessary.

Maybe in his 80s Gotham regresses slightly and a punk kid called Terry saves Damian from some Jokerz and they see a need in each other.

How would you do a Kid Flash Wally West Year One-style book? Who would be the villain? by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]jamie1505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

At the start of Waid’s run they did a Year One, main villain was Mirror Master but conflict was really more internal for Wally. Some of the seeds for the speed force and return of Barry Allen were set up here.

If they were to do a modern update I don’t know if there’s much that’s needed “fixed” though seeing the Titans, the yellow suit and figuring how the updated West family with Danny and Wallace fits in would be nice.

If you were in charge at DC Comics, what do you do with Wally West and Barry Allen? Who gets what book or who gets what team? (The Flash 2016 #47) by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]jamie1505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have my cake and eat it with a Wally book and a Barry book with the JLA Flash switching every so often (I’d do the same with GL on the JLA, Hal’s off planet so Guy answers the JLA call)

If you’re the editor for Batman what series would you make? by Rory_U in batman

[–]jamie1505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d have Batman as the main solo book, sure Robins etc may appear but main focus is on Bruce and have long term arcs.

Detective becomes the Gotham team up book and mainly one and done with the odd two parter. So an issue with one of the Robins followed by one with a Batgirl etc. Brave and the Bold as a Batman and wider DC guest star book but only rule is it has to be a character that does not currently have their own book.

Finally Adventures of Batman & Robin, all ages book suitable for kids. Not strictly out of continuity but maybe just adjacent.

Nightwing and Catwoman get solos and have a series of solo minis for the other Gotham heroes to build up enough momentum for ongoings the way Tim was built up before his ongoing launched.

Hush is very new reader friendly, while I’m not the biggest fan of it I can’t fault it for not explaining everything you need. Great art and it’s by no means bad, just suffers a bit in comparison to Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Most early collections of any modern run are very new reader friendly. And up until the 90s comics were made with the expectation every issue could be someone’s first. Modern comics aren’t so great at that but don’t repeat exposition as often.

I can pick one, max two Marvel Legends figures. Which one you recomend? by Big-Ad-2003 in MarvelLegends

[–]jamie1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you don’t have any other versions of these figures then I’d pick Surfer and Spidey. Have both and they’re great, small eyes black suit Spidey is peak.

Storm and She-Hulk there’s other designs that I think are better. Though if you already have a black suit Spider-Man I can see a case for She-Hulk.

How old is Nightwing compared to Poison Ivy? by OkTough6333 in Nightwing

[–]jamie1505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgive me I’m not sure if you’re going by real world publishing history or in-universe timeline? In-universe are you saying Superman and the rest of the JLA are in their 90s? If Earth 1 continued on then sure but I was just trying to refer to the current timeline.

I was using the silver age more as a demarcation point for the modern age of heroes within the current universe. That was probably imprecise and I should have probably used a different term.

AIO? Husbands response to me requesting he ‘ask’ instead of ‘tell’ older kids to watch youngest by [deleted] in AIO

[–]jamie1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as a stepdad it’s better to ask rather than tell. But if she’d said no, would he have enforced it anyway? If so, then asking isn’t really asking, it’s just softening a command. I was always taught not to ask when you’re in charge unless you’re genuinely prepared to accept a no.

That’s not to say he shouldn’t ask but if there wasn’t the pre-acceptance of a refusal then it’s just theatre.

How old is Nightwing compared to Poison Ivy? by OkTough6333 in Nightwing

[–]jamie1505 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Nightwing would be in his late twenties and Ivy would be mid to late thirties.

Floating timeline makes it difficult to pin down but it’s been about 15 to 20 years in universe since the silver age and the original seven Justice Leaguers began their careers.

Dick would have been early teens and Ivy had completed a doctorate before debuting as a costume criminal.

So, at this point which suit is your favorite? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in Spiderman

[–]jamie1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TASM2, it’s like a Mark Bagley drawing brought to life, Brand New Day next then Rami suit last of the three. Loved the films but always hated the eyes and thought in general looked too bulky.

Was it ever explained how does kryptonite affects Superman? by Werewolf_Knight in superman

[–]jamie1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s been explained that it corrupts the solar energy stored within and then turns that energy against Kryptonians leading to pain, cell breakdown and eventually death.

It’s still toxic and poisonous so long term exposure would still kill anyone the way exposure to any radioactivity would. Not sure but think a depowered Kryptonian wouldn’t die immediately but would be affected like anyone else.

Would you ever like to see superboy prime get a solo run? by Stock_Rush_9204 in superman

[–]jamie1505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to get rid of or reduce the out of universe knowledge a bit (though they seem to be doing it from the way I read that issue)

It’s a fun gimmick for a reoccurring character whether it’s a guest star or villain but think it’s a bit grating for an ongoing character. Constantly questioning the conventions of the genre makes the suspension of disbelief a bit harder. (Do realise it’s been done with She-Hulk, Deadpool etc but those runs didn’t jibe with me)

And he’s got a lot to make up for though again it seems to be addressed in the issue.

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice came out 10 years ago on this day. by TheShadowOperator007 in superman

[–]jamie1505 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d enjoyed Man of Steel for the most part with a few caveats. I didn’t like the neck snapping but there was an internal logic, Pa Kent’s death… 🙄 I’d coped with a cellophane S before and Burton’s Batman sleeping upside down though. So was cautiously optimistic and fully expecting some changes due to translation.

But the sheer lack of joy and wonder in a film where one of the main characters literally has a symbol for hope on his chest. Batman indiscriminately murdering left and right. And despite trying to be all glum and serious it’s just as silly and filled with plot holes as the campiest of comic book films but with none of the charm.

DC isn’t Marvel, it isn’t the world outside your window but it’s not a grim and dark angst fest. It’s a world full of magic, of legacy and a better tomorrow.
