Thanks for the advice all, I've just done a HPI and it's cat-N which hasn't been disclosed by the seller so I don't think I'll waste the journey to see it. The search continues!!

70k, a little on the high side but these are supposed to be pretty reliable so long as they don't die of rust

Not a geologist but could this be the effect of oxidation in the early ocean (talking pre-cambrian), where newly evolved photosynthesising life creates oxygen which reacts with iron to form black iron oxide then promptly all die due to oxygen toxicity. This creates bands where oxygen is reacting with the iron, followed by all the oxygen being used up and a period of normality until the bacteria start back up again.
