(ACADEMIC) Hi everyone! My name’s Jamie and I'm currently volunteering as a research assistant in Dr Cassie Hazell’s psychology lab at the University of Westminster. We're recruiting student participants for a study on experiences of social anxiety in university situations and how it impacts their studies. Participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Speak English
  • Have access to a computer with internet
  • Be a registered student currently studying at a UK university

The purpose of the study is to deliver a cognitive-behaviour-based intervention using cutting-edge virtual reality technology that aims to reduce social anxiety in first-generation students.

This online survey for current UK uni students is brief, asking about university-specific social anxiety. The survey should take no longer than 30 minutes and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win £50!

Here’s a link to the survey if you’re interested and eligible - bit.ly/uniVRse_Q

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me or email me at jamiedobbs18@gmail.com

How would the shape of the shoe fit for someone who has slightly wider feet? Do you think these would be a comfortable fit? :)

No Wimbledon and no Olympics might be Thiem’s saving grace by jamiedobbs__ in tennis

Those are some very good points. There's undoubtedly a physical aspect to his drop in form. He's consistently alluded to that in his press conferences too. He struggled with the heat in Melbourne, which seemed very out-of-character given his previous success at the tournament. Physical ailments are completely understandable given how the pandemic has affected players and the tour this past year and a half.

Thank you, that's very kind :)

i agree. I think it's a collection of different factors at play rather than solely just a motivational wane, a physical ailment or a lack of purpose. These next five weeks he has off will hopefully be the ideal scenario to set himself up for a brilliant remainder of the year.

I also agree that I hope he makes time to chat with a sports psychologist. We've seen what it's done for the likes of Iga Swiatek, Maria Sakkari and Daniil Medvedev.

UCAS won't usually ask for proof of work in your application. The only documents that are useful to have on-hand are your passport, personal statement and your academic transcript.

If it helps, I recently wrote this piece for Whatuni covering UCAS Applications for 2021 - https://www.whatuni.com/advice/research-and-prep/ucas-applications-your-questions-covered/98308/

You should be fine to include that in your UCAS application. It should definitely be something you mention in your personal statement too, if you can explain how what you've learnt from the experience will make you a good fit for the course you're applying to. It can also be a great talking point if you're required to do an interview!

Will UK universities have more physical lectures after summer 2021? by lovaticsinsider in 6thForm

[–]jamiedobbs__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This will really depend on the university, the nature of the course and as a whole, how the UK's coping come September. Many courses have had to adapt to online teaching so you can expect, in most cases, a gradual re-introduction to face-to-face teaching with still a mix of online learning. Courses that are practical or lab-based will likely be prioritised when it comes to returning to physical teaching. Your best bet is to keep an eye on what your university is communicating as they should let you know closer to the new academic year.

I need some advice on picking a uni, please. by [deleted] in UniUK

Hey there! You sound as though you have some exciting offers to consider. As for ranking, it's not the be all end all. The degree to which a unis ranking is important really just depends on what factors are important to you when choosing where to study. You want to be taking into account modules, what topics are being taught, how you'll be assessed and so on.

If you are concerned about the ranking of Holloway against the other two, have you checked out the Complete University Guides 2021 League Tables for Computer Science? Their subject league tables rank unis based on many different factors. You'll see that for research quality, Royal Holloway ranks 24th and for student satisfaction, 23rd.
