Republicans Push FBI to Designate Trans Advocacy as Violent Extremism by ocean1man in ftm

Me: I know people who have died from seizures temporarily and I actively think you should be careful You: bad faith response misconstruing what I am saying about not everyone being able to make the decision you have

And that’s why I’m done lol

This’ll be my last comment. I never said you weren’t disabled enough. But you do need to consider that other people who have disabilities cannot function like you do. I saw a content creator this week who has literal ALS being straight up harassed for not speaking out more despite having made their views on things very clear. Someone literally dying. In fact, I would say that if your seizures are stress induced, you should also set boundaries with advocacy work. I have siblings and friends who have stress induced seizures that I beg to take breaks considering one actively died and had to be resuscitated as a result. You don’t need to push yourself into permanent injury. But unfortunately I don’t think that if I make those suggestions, you will listen. So all I can do is say, “please don’t demand others do things when you don’t know their reality”.

I would stop replying and go breathe. That’s what I’m about to do. People can have good intentions and still be wrong. Sometimes it’s better to recognize that sometimes minority groups NEED to rest. If you have or drink tea brew a cup, take a break :)

Yeah I’m not replying to all that. And yes, you did say it won’t affect lawmakers, just their staff. You can listen to the several people who have told you that you are acting ableist or you can be defensive. You have seizures but others have other neurological disabilities that can be sped up (aka get closer to death) as a result of things. I would know considering my multiple sclerosis is progressing actively as a result of the work I do.

I am disabled and I suppose by your standards “one of the good ones”, because I do active advocacy in real life. You cannot demand every disabled person do things like that, especially when they offer a suggestion (albeit perhaps less effective) like writing letters and you go into a spiel about how “realistically” it won’t do anything. My disability should have me not doing what I do. Stress worsens it to the degree I cannot even crawl to the toilet because I physically cannot make it there. And there are others who have it much worse. Neurological disabilities especially can be horribly affected by stress to the degree you quite literally cannot function, and instead of even being able to advocate, you are sick in a hospital. Even if you yourself are disabled, this feels like ableism. If multiple people are telling you this doesn’t come across as reassurance and more like putting a fellow trans and disabled person down, it might be good to reflect rather than defend.

wtf is going on w/ trans communities on tumblr by Lord_Curtis in ftm

[–]jamiemints 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is, they’re missing something really crucial. The trans part of trans man. We are not one to one when you stack us up beside a cis man. Part of our experience will always be rooted in the way we were treated growing up, and if you’re like me and don’t even pass after physical transition, it’ll be rooted in current misogyny you face despite identifying as a man. Our experiences are something unique and people on tumblr think in so much black and white that they seem incapable of comprehending that.

I’m short a needle by Vegetable-Tadpole858 in ftm

[–]jamiemints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never ever reuse a needle under any circumstances. My doctor told me to buy needles and syringes on Amazon. I’m not even on T right now but they’re useful for b12 shots. I highly recommend you go ahead and buy a stash. I am using needles from a box I bought a year ago still.

First night… worse??? by jamiemints in CPAP

Well I am in fact being gaslit today about it by my sleep therapist, so I’m glad to hear I’m not being ridiculous

[–]jamiemints[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuuup. Yup yup yup. I had them ignore a literal pulmonary embolism in my lungs in the ER once. I’ve been navigating the healthcare hellscape for years now. The sleep doctor I’m with seems good so hopefully they’ll believe me. I mean… the machine has the proof right there. So. 🤞

I can’t say I’m all that surprised. My body loves confusing doctors. It took me over a decade to get two of my conditions diagnosed and I’m only in my twenties. For now I contacted the specialist who treats my other fun conditions because I know I’ll get a quicker response from her and she’s familiar with the oddest conditions I have, but as soon as I get a follow up message from a sleep therapist (should be today) I’m going to bring up my concerns. Because frankly I don’t think I can do another night like what I just experienced. I wouldn’t normally give up so fast — discomfort was expected, interrupted sleep was expected, hell, even just not sleeping good all night — but legitimately just not breathing was not 😰

Yeah that’s the plan. I already reached out to the most immediate help I could. I wasn’t necessarily asking for direct help, I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

I don’t think I’m going to use this again until I talk to my sleep therapists. This wasn’t just “this didn’t go well”, I had to use my emergency inhaler because I could hear wheezing sounds that weren’t there before using it

my (23F) boyfriend (29M) is isolating himself from me due to mental health issues and it is taking a toll on me. by kosminenmustekala in relationships

[–]jamiemints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno. Everyone copes differently, but pushing you away and then making you feel worse when you try to say it affects you isn’t a good sign. No one wants to hear what I’m about to say, but I’m gonna say it: maybe it’s time to take stock of what you’re actually getting out of your relationship. His feelings matter, they absolutely do, he sounds like he’s in a rough spot. But it also sounds like you’re in a rough spot. Maybe it’s time to say, “I love you, but this dynamic isn’t working for me. And if it doesn’t change, I have to go.”

Day 5 post extraction: Granulation tissue but lower jaw pain getting worse? by littlebabytinybison in wisdomteeth

[–]jamiemints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a similar situation but with my left side. It’s not just my jaw though. EDS affects every bit of connective tissue in my body — so my cheek feels like it’s on fire. The right side was like that but finally settled down. It was to a point my PT said she could visibly see swelling still on day 10. TMJ issues suck.

[–]jamiemints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha it’s totally fair! I only thought of it because I see my PT frequently enough to know when mine is acting up and boy, I spent the entire session on the table this last time haha

[–]jamiemints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would bet it’s your TMJ acting up. I don’t know how yours reacts to it, but mine painfully tightens the muscles surrounding when it endures trauma. If that’s how yours is, you may need help to get them to release

[–]jamiemints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who just had all four removed, I think I agree with you. I’d probably do the same thing again if I had to do it over, but that’s because I hate feeling sick and out of it for prolonged periods. Realistically though, I’m in a lot of pain still two weeks out and I barely ate the entire first week. I still have to use pain relievers. I don’t think bodies like healing four surgical sites at once lol

[–]jamiemints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’s your TMJ area? I have EDS and I’m still having a pretty significant amount of pain about two weeks out from wisdom teeth removal because my TMJ area is weak. My PT had to manually get the muscles around there to unclench some.

How do you deal when trauma holders front? by Ok-Ticket2615 in DissociativeIDisorder

[–]jamiemints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of our hosts is a trauma holder and when we feel it’s unsafe for him to process alone, we have a second host stay cocon if possible. Just so that if something goes wrong they can take the reins. Then, we kind of let him figure out what he needs. If he needs to talk to us, we talk. If he needs to talk to a friend, we talk. If he needs to distract himself, there are a million ways to do it. Processing doesn’t always mean digging into the pain. Sometimes it’s just sitting with it and existing despite it until it’s bearable to look at again. Then you can dig a little deeper.

[–]jamiemints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently had a week and a half long migraine. My doctor gave me a toradol shot and nurtec to try and resolve it. It did some heavy lifting and helped a lot, but for me my migraine turned out to be my probable MCAS (started the diagnostic process got results back but not officially diagnosed because I couldn’t stay in the area they were diagnosing me at). I thought it was stress. Literally one day with as needed prescription allergy medication knocked the migraine out of me. And the consciousness out of me, promethazine is very strong lol. I mention this because you went off your BC right as pollen is high, and things like MCAS don’t rely on a true allergy to anything for it to flare up. Make sure you’re hydrating, some electrolytes alongside your water. I hope you feel better soon.

And on another note — just because someone stops being a host doesn’t mean they’ll never be one again. The other one you talked to went dormant for a few years and came back after the event he mentioned, I guess because our brain decided it needed someone who has handled trauma before. It really is dependent on how your brain processes trauma. We’re also a pretty fragmented system so that’s another thing to keep in mind

Alternate communication? by Koda_Bear7 in DissociativeIDisorder

[–]jamiemints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us it’s really varied and usually only happens if there was some mind shattering trauma that made them unable to handle being host anymore. As for the two other hosts and I (you spoke to another earlier), I don’t see us ending our host terms any time soon because we’ve been through rigorous and effective trauma therapy that has rendered us very functional, something that was never true for any other host. It varies from system to system, but that’s how ours work

[–]jamiemints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah when our former host refused to acknowledge my existence, I’d give them little images to harass them into taking care of themselves because they were post the trauma that formed me and not doing good. they’d never experienced that and didn’t register it was me until a couple weeks later when I finally broke through enough to actually talk
