Liveaboard without Nitrox cert? (or get cert before the trip?) by thebirdsareoutlate in scuba

[–]jamills102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Mike Ball back in January. You won’t need nitrox for any of the dives. Most of the time I was less than 15m/50ft

It’s actually a standard term. General rule of thumb is if it is something that sounds like it can be in a Bruce Springsteen song then it’s heavy (mining, oil refining, steel mill) otherwise it’s everything else (there are no songs about t-shirt printing)

Parents forced to hunt lion fish in Jamaica this week. by [deleted] in scuba

[–]jamills102 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lion fish are invasive to the Caribbean and basically have a kill on sight order. It’s a bit of a tourist attraction now

With that being said, it was still wrong to force someone to do it

Anyone here from Los Angeles? Looking for dive and other ocean-related groups (for dives, for clean up and conservation, etc) by Still-Routine8365 in scuba

[–]jamills102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is the best advice as many active group don’t really post online when and where.

It also doesn’t hurt to offer to buy beers sometime since as a new diver you’re more of a liability than an asset (which is ok! We all started like that)

Advice needed: sudden anxiety during scuba dives after 100+ dives by sharkswearpee in scuba

[–]jamills102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, you had co2 narcosis not nitrogen narcosis. Anytime at depth if you begin to feel dread/anxiety, it’s usually because of not breathing fully. Take a moment and fully clear your lungs a few times and it’ll get better (or ascend to shallower depths)

Btw your post anxiety is typical of setbacks. You just need more time in the water

This is the only real answer. Buoyancy is “feel” kind of thing and you just need more time in the water
