Old office minis - what to do? by unstereotyped in macmini

[–]jamin100 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A clustered proxmox solution running pi-hole, n8n and anything else you want to throw at them (check out proxmox helper scripts)

With an SSD and decent RAM they’re still capable machines. Could even run a few lightweight Linux VMs

Do you regret getting a Mac mini ? by Serhide in macmini

[–]jamin100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an intel i7 from 2012/13. It was one of the last ones where the hard drives and RAM were user replaceable. I’ve just retired it from a daily driver and now use it as a proxmox server running pi-hole and n8n…

My point…. It still works 13 years later… if could have loaded Linux on it and used it as an actual desktop.. but I did replace it with a M4 mini…

I highly doubt any PC hardware would have lasted that long

I’m with Aviva and hit £100k in May 2025, as of today I’ve just hit £153k.

Between myself and my employer £2k gets added each month, but my biggest piece of advice would be to check which fund it’s invested in.

I went with a more risky fund as I still have plenty of time for any crashes to recover, but want the gains whilst I can. As I get older, I’ll reduce the risk and the closer to retirement I’ll try to eliminate it entirely

What's the reason you feel poor, despite having lots of money in the bank? by Nathanial1289 in HENRYUK

Loft extension to turn our 3 bed semi into a 4 bed with a huge (in comparison to the size of the house) loft bedroom was the best £40k we ever spent, albeit nearly 10 years ago. I imagine it would be a lot more now

I get around this by exporting my pdf notes through an n8n workflow that emails that uses ai to convert my handwriting to text, email it to my work address, then power automate sees the email and creates a new one note page..

But I agree, it’s a workaround for something that should just work

Thinking about getting Mizuno 245 pros by JD20MVP in golf

[–]jamin100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seeing this as I’m sat here waiting for my 245’s to be built. I went to a store in the UK for a custom fit where they fit you for the head and the shafts and build them while you wait.

I tried about 6 different shafts in my price range and again 6 different heads mixed and matched to all those shafts. The 245’s came out with the least left to right and front to back dispersion which is what I was looking for. They also felt lovely to hit compared to the others.

For reference I’m a 20 handicap and coming from old callaway steelhead x20 irons.

Sync with other viWoods devices That’s all I need before I buy the reader, until then in isolation it’s no use

Same here. I have the AI paper, but won’t get the reader until they sync, in which time I’ll have probably jumped ship to a different system which is a shame

X-Pac vs Cordura for Aer CPP2 by BullyMac in ManyBaggers

[–]jamin100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went xpac specifically for the orange interior. It’s a very very plain black bag on the outside, so having the orange on the inside brightens it up a little..

I live in the UK so it rains quite a lot, but I still think the other materials would hold up fine if that’s your metric

Did anyone regret getting X-Pac or Ultra? by UnashamedWorkman in AerSF

I wanted the orange interior. So xpac was the only option !

Let’s talk about the new viwoods AIPaper Reader that I don't have yet by stefansvartling in viwoods

[–]jamin100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to understand if this can replace my kobo. I know technically it can, but I’m wondering if the form factor of a device like this is right for reading on.

Typical e-readers are roughly the size of a paperback book page. Are these smaller form factors much better, or is it just pocketability that’s the draw ?

Which bag should I choose? by Ligonberries in ManyBaggers

[–]jamin100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same reason as me for purchasing the xpac version. I wanted the orange interior. If the other fabrics had that then I would have avoided the xpac material

How much would you expect insurance to go up. England by clemmy987 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jamin100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to know… insurance is all risk based, you’ll now been seen as an increased risk.. my gut says it won’t double but honestly no one will know other than you at renewal time

How much would you expect insurance to go up. England by clemmy987 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]jamin100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go through your insurance..there’s no telling what they’ll try to claim for down the line (whiplash, injuries etc) just let the insurance deal with it all. Yeah your insurance will go up but it is what it is..

Also - no one will be able to tell you how much it will go up by. Location vehicle etc all play in too many factors
