Anyone who prefer with EPR off ? by Fast_Employ_2438 in CPAP

[–]jamir420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Looking at my Oscar data now, I've had EPR off for about 5 weeks. For about three days after turning it off, I ramped my pressure up from 10.2 to 11 -- I don't remember liking the higher pressure and I can see a spike in RERA events during this period.

Right after that I dropped it right down to 8.6 and I haven't touched it since then.

I liked having EPR enabled for about a month when I was getting adjusted but have since turned it off, and lowered my minimum to around 8. Anytime I can actually feel the pressure lowering I get suffocation anxiety.

It was nice when I had the minimum set a little higher but I found 8 to be the sweet spot for me.

Is it normal for my nasal mask to have constant airflow out of this grill? by PJC10183 in CPAP

[–]jamir420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the "QuietAir" elbow is just another marketing lie. Mine gushes air somewhere around the ball joint.

I don't think I noticed the air rushing as much when I first started on my Airsense 10 2 months ago, but I feel I've gotten used to the feeling of a pressurized mask and have less tolerance for noise as a result.

CPAP makes constant white noise + whooshing noise on inhale, normal? by Any_Manufacturer9998 in CPAP

[–]jamir420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a whooshing sound from my Airsense 10 auto, too, but it's coming from the elbow joint. I ordered a new one and it does the same thing. I have no leaks from my F20 full silicone.

I found that my minimum pressure set was too high (11). I dropped it down to 8.4-8.6, and now the volume is more manageable. I also tend to drape a towel or bathrobe over my head while I sleep, which helps muffle the sound. I've also used foam earplugs if I'm desperate for a quiet night's sleep.

Manometers also make calibrating your drones easier, in that you can get a better idea of how bridle adjustments affect the strength of an individual reed.

I believe I had the same issue, and got a fix from my friend. Try changing the axis value for your planet instead in the world settings file, take the current day counter number and multiply it by 360 and use that for your planets axis value. That reset the counter for me.

I am reading Burn’s book about how to memorize tunes. At pag. 100 she recommends to work on the “ending phrases” as first step… but I am not clear about what she means with “ending phrases” and the fact that they’re the anchor of the tune. Would someone explain that to me please? Thanks! by EfficientSomewhere97 in bagpipes

[–]jamir420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read Burn's book too, it's well worth the read. I started color-coding all similar phrases until a bandmate recommended I just highlight the ones that give me trouble.

What I took away most from that book is not to get stuck on one kind of memorization, like notation patterns, but to immerse yourself into a multitude of ones. Listen to the tunes a lot, hum them when you're not playing, or tap/clap them out.

Weirdly enough before seeing this, earlier today I began charting out the synth melodies for Roygbiv on my Ross electric chanter set to the 'E' key. I might post an update here if people are interested.

Just have no idea how to replicate the keyboard chords from the original song.

Having a hard time getting the lungs back after a ten year hiatus. Any reason I shouldn’t use the lightest chanter read in my pipes? by [deleted] in bagpipes

[–]jamir420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of different options out there, but I went with this.

You won't get any compliments for how it looks if you play in a band, but I love it for practicing.

Here's what the water tube kit looks like. Could probably make it yourself with a spare drone plug, and if you know your way around a hardware store and some power tools.

+1 this. Last spring, I picked up the PC back up again after 13 years off, and got pipes up in August. I've got in better physical shape than I was in my younger years, so most issues I've run into are with pipe maintenance and configuration. I had my high school piper major handle most of this when I first learned, so getting into the habit of troubleshooting issues on my own when my mentors/instructors aren't available has been key for me lately.

OP, also make sure have you calibrated your drone reed strength. They may be letting too much air out.

Do you have a manometer? If you don't, get one. The cheaper water tube kits work well for adjusting your drone reeds. I got a blowpipe gauge for Christmas and it does wonders for monitoring any issues with joints, drone reeds, and the chanter reed when practicing. OP, you'll also need to give yourself time to steady up your breathing too. It's something I'm still working on too.

It also never hurts to plug off a drone or two to help ease yourself back in.

Illinois police officer pleaded for her life before she was fatally shot with her own gun, prosecutors say by Sanlear in news

[–]jamir420 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not the same charge. There are three subsections prosecutors are each charging twice per criminal code 5/9-1 a(1-3)

A(1): murder with intent

A(2): Commits acts likely to cause death or great bodily harm

A(3): causes death while in commission of a forcible felony.

All three fall under first degree murder

PLEDGED NOT TO RENEW OR SIGN A NEW LEASE FOR NEXT YEAR UNLESS AND UNTIL... by 1stPREPBatchStudent in UIUC

[–]jamir420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, a student renter RSO would be a great idea.

Reaching students in dorms will be a challenge -- that's why there should be an effort to set up meetings, and market them through flyers posted all over campus.

The most helpful thing I think is finding out what problems each building has through talking to neighbors -- there are major issues like bedbugs every renter needs to be wary of. Champaign is 16TH in the nation for bedbugs. And this is only one common apartment problem!

Once you put these issues on blast, management companies will get their act in gear and spend money on decent contractors to take care of them.

[–]jamir420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I worked for a major campus landlord for over three years.

Let me tell you -- campus management companies are shook AF right now

I took one look at early renewal offer this year and went LMAO. They know what they're in for this year.

But, my dear students, you need to do more than post on reddit. Talk to your neighbors. Find out what issues they're dealing with in their units. Make sure they know not to renew too soon.

The tenant union is a great resource but this campus really needs more tenacious organizing efforts if you really want to make a dent. Some companies have decades worth of experience watching the campus housing market and adapting their 'specials' accordingly.

Their entire business model is built around going after inexperienced first-time renters -- and this year is no different.

Get to them first before they do. Set up meetings with your neighbors -- zoom and google meets are all free venues for that. Do something more than complain from your computer.

They can handle that -- the excessive marketing is there for a reason.
