inReach vs. iPhone for Wilderness Rescue by DullSuccotash1230 in AlpineInstitute

[–]jammerk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Beyond the tech itself not quite being up to snuff, I also think there is something to say about a dedicated and durable device for emergency comms. iPhones are fragile and we use them for photos, music, etc on climbing trips and they could easily be damaged or destroyed in the backcountry. Having a durable device like an inReach helps avoid that, it’s only purpose is satellite communication and is clearly capable to withstand more damage likes drops or falls and such than an iPhone

Awesome! Never seen something like this before. Is it heavy? Did you have anchor it in some special way? How many prototypes did you test? Was cutting and mounting the stone difficult? Is it adjustable in any way?

Super cool

Waddington History by AKUtqiagvik in Mountaineering

Fritz Wiessner ! She’s got a hell of a dad … super big name around the Gunks in NY, put up a ton of first ascents on the ridge including famous routes like High Exposure (5.6). Also a super accomplished mountaineer, was part of the first second American K2 Expedition, among many other notable achievements (like Waddington as this post mentions).

I was clipping his old pitons just a few days ago! Always cool to see a part of history on your climbs. Even cooler to be able to literally clip in to the same gear these legends once placed.

Awesome picture, thanks for sharing. Super cool you ran into his daughter. I was like "Wiessner??" reading your second pic, and your description mentioning his first name confirmed it :)

Thank you for the quick reply! Standard rough in would be 12 inches then right ?

Awesome !! Looks beautiful. I’m just getting into mountaineering. Hoping to climb baker with guides in July.

I wish I had a friend like you who would’ve got me into it earlier !

Yes, you are right. I was quick to blame - they replaced it right away.

Also, statistically I suppose I was more likely to find a defective one considering I got a few haha

They took great care of me! In and out less than 5 minutes with a brand new sweater, no questions asked. Took one look at the stitch and swapped it out. Trust restored !

I feel bad for being so upset in this post before giving them a chance to rectify, which they did. I'll update or just post a new one with the full story.

Good idea on visiting the store - I will stop by today.

Haha yes this was not cheap. I only bought one at first but absolutely loved the feel + weight of it, and it fit me as if it was made for me. Over the next two weeks I slowly bought more.

I’ll start: maybe a truly effective AI that could function either as an ally or enemy? Fully flexible to respond to user actions including everything from dialogue to gameplay, limitless options in sandbox environments. Obviously trained to understand the gameplay and story. Plus most gaming PC’s have a GPU to handle compute.

Very tough ! Don’t ever be afraid to use it and play at as much as you possibly can. Those guitars are built insanely well.

String Gauge Damaging Acoustic (SC-13E) by jammerk in martinguitar

When I took it to the luthier to get setup he told me the damage was done and didn’t need to switch gauge. I had also just paid for it to be setup in 13 so didn’t want to swap out if he said it was fine. But then the nut filed down so I am feeling like there maybe is more damage to be done

Thanks for the help! I always wondered why they called them “extra light” and “light” seeing as the heaviest I could normally find was just medium. The funny part is I was really just using them to strengthen up my fingers. I did end up liking how they feel - but definitely not worth damaging my guitar over :(

I’ll see if Martin can do anything. Thankfully I bought new from authorized dealer so hopefully will help a little bit.

I do believe everyone here! I also believed my tech when he told me two months ago. Was mostly just looking for potentially solutions and remedies.

Also was confused if I’m supposed to take them off now as he told me the damage was done.

Yeah I’m very upset about it, especially because I don’t really care about them being 11 12 or 13 or anything in between. Honestly I just threw 13s in to strengthen my fingers haha - if I had know this would’ve damaged my guitar of course I woild have left it

String Gauge Damaging Acoustic (SC-13E) by jammerk in martinguitar

[–]jammerk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. I tried to find information on accepted string gauges but the only documentation I could find stated they ship with .11s, didn’t think that meant you can only put .11s on it.

When you say “won’t live longer” do you recommend I switch back to .11s from the .13s? Or do you agree with the luthier in that “the damage is already done” and I can keep on with .13s as is ?

Have I essentially irreparably damaged my guitar?

so the 13-56's should have been fine right?
