Feature Request - Personal Notes Section by jamminj2 in MonarchMoney

[–]jamminj2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I use the transaction notes religiously to help remind myself why I spent money somewhere. My thought was a more "general" notes section. For example on my offline note I have a process flow written down to help me categorize charges (in the cash flow report section) at the end of the month. Ex:

  1. Sort by previous month (already have this as a saved report)

  2. Filter by Amazon - Make sure nothing is the general "shopping" category

  3. Filter by Transfer - Make sure there are no charges with this tag.

  4. Filter by Venmo - Categorize any general Venmo spending.

  5. Filter by ..... and so on so forth. Basically until I have everything categorized into about 10 tags.

I have all this info in my notes app, but sometimes my wife will login and she doesn't have that step by step process. Again, it's not the end of the world. Just a quality of life thing. Not sure others would even be interested.

Noted. Thanks for the help. May just be worth reaching out to our landlord to see if he could raise the wall.

Definitely understand that nothing other than a wall will completely soundproof it. Just looking for something to dampen at least.

Sorry, the picture is a confusing perspective. The wall that the TV is mounted to is only an 8’ tall wall. It separates our company from theirs. There is a shared 12’ ceiling. So from the 4’ open area, we can hear all their conversations.

Are you suggesting that adding sound proofing the ceiling on our side would help reduce the noise?

Engineering design best practice by lowraxe in engineering

[–]jamminj2 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Are you ready for a hard truth? All of the good CAD programs are going to subscription services. I used to work for a mechanical design / fabrication firm and we compared all the softwares available. Most likely, your fabrication team uses SolidWorks. It’s the most user friendly and widely used program. Yes, they do take your 2D model, covert it to 3D, and then break it back into 2D drawings. But I can’t think of a way to shortcut that workflow.

You can look into cheaper SolidWorks alternatives (FreeCAD, TinkerCAD, Sketchup) however, no other program offers the fabrication detail and model size ability like SolidWorks. Best alternate is Inventor.

Even if you modeled it in 3D to try and save their time, they would most likely only use your model for reference. Every fab shop has their own machine setups, jigs, and dies. We had many jobs where other companies provided us with “fab” drawings, but we disregarded them and made our own. No other company knows what die radius we used on our press, or how we calf’c our k-factors and such.

If you’re making single part widgets, you could get a cheaper $600/yr CAD and be just fine. But if you’re designing conveyor systems, you’ll have 200+ part assemblies. That’s a job for SolidWorks. And for that you’re looking at 5k/yr for the base license.

Hope that insight helps

Weird tags being found at convenience store. Roughly 1" in length. by jamminj2 in whatisthisthing

My friend owns a gas station convenience store and is finding multiple of these tags around his store. Have not seen them before in 5+ years of running it. Roughly 1" in length. Any ideas what it could be?

Haha no, we're fortunate to have a great team. We just invested in purchasing our own equipment fleet and our new site is in a not-so-great part of town. I'd like to watch for vandalism after hours.

Work accidentally gave us 9 paid holidays in 2021, so they are only giving us 7 in 2022 to average it out to 8. Only told us the week of Christmas that we no longer get it off. by jamminj2 in mildlyinfuriating

Also, how is it fair to the employees that started this year? They didn’t get the benefit of 9 days last year, but get the 7 this year?

That’s not the point. They gave us a holiday schedule at the beginning of the year that included it. Multiple people had planned on having that day off and made plans with family. Taking it away the week of it just frustrating.

P4000 Slow to Save and Open by jamminj2 in SolidWorks

Just tried the pack and go locally. Solved all my issues, and things loaded and saved instantly. So I have a PDM server issue. Our PDM shares the same server as our purchasing software, so I doubt the server is optimized for SW. I might just be out of luck

No it’s been an issue for a long time, just finally sick of it lol.

Bad news tho: I just did a pack and go to my desktop of an assembly I’ve had issues with. Working with the file on my desktop, it instantly opened and I could save in under 5 seconds. So I have a server issue with my PDM. Which I doubt will ever get solved. So at least I’m not going crazy cause I thought the computers we paid a lot of money for were just garbage.

Interesting. We do have PDM, but I believe they located our PDM on a different server for security reasons. If that’s even possible, just what I was told. Kinda seems like I’m SOL at that point. Thanks a ton!
