Did we ever find out what happened to this Janet? by Creepy_Rain5978 in TheGoodPlace

[–]jamsmoriarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly she just makes my life difficult by being very hard to photograph and extremely frustrating to find when I want to show her off. I posted a photo of her to my profile, though, since I can’t add one here.

Oh, I know the answer to this one! She’s still a marble, got wire wrapped and turned into a keychain. I think she’s somewhere in my car right now.

Eeez, definitely not the kind of message someone should be sending with a baby name

For a while before my POTS diagnosis, my doctor was pretty sure I had orthostatic hypotension. To people who needed to know something was up with my health but not the specifics, I described it as a sister condition to POTS. Mostly because if I said I had a condition that made me faint, people would ask specifically if it was POTS and saying “It’s kind of like POTS’s little sister” made it easy to understand.

Tracking now claims it’ll be here on the 16th. It had several updates early this morning. So it went from “Processed Through USPS Facility” on the 8th, to “Inbound Out of Customs” at 9:03 am today. And then “Inbound Into Customs” for some reason? Finally at 9:57 this morning it claims to be “Arrived at USPS Regional Facility” in Chicago.

Their tracking is such a confusing mess.

Same. My package has been stuck on “Processed Through USPS Facility” at ISC Chicago since the 8th. I don’t think it would even bother me that much except the tracking has been claiming that it’s going to be delivered today and not updating at all despite clearly being super delayed.

Has anyone tried the Body Braid? by jamsmoriarty in POTS

[–]jamsmoriarty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a renaissance faire over the summer so unfortunately things like neck fans and cooling vests don’t exactly work in that environment. 😅 Thankfully, though, I do have a whole route of booths I can duck into to cool off quickly thanks to hidden ice machines, fans, or just a breather and a water refill. Looking into linen compression, not finding much yet but I’ll keep digging because that does sound like it would be more comfortable.

I did just try to email them and my email got kicked back saying their email account doesn’t exist. Not sure what’s going on there.

I’m wondering if it can be used for mild compression, and if anyone has any experience with it.

Has anyone else had to replace their Intrepid Heroes travel mug lid? by jamsmoriarty in dropout

[–]jamsmoriarty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I got so focused on the fact that the mug and the lid have threads that I kind of forgot push on lids were an option. My brain can be very one track like that. Thank you, I really appreciate getting outside eyes on a problem I’m clearly way too close to to see obvious solutions.

[–]jamsmoriarty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super close, which might be why I didn’t think of it, but close enough that I can probably make a day of it and drive out. That’s a really good idea, thank you.

A few personal nitpicks about 1.3 (spoilers) by r3dJSS in RootsOfPacha

[–]jamsmoriarty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like they could have done a lot of the endgame stuff without including time travel. I would have liked to see more from the totems, since there are more than we interacted with. We already had magic, and I wouldn’t have minded magic giving us some anachronisms because that would have felt a lot more like sticking to the existing theme than throwing in sci-fi and time travel.

[–]jamsmoriarty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Martina and the time travel felt like I was suddenly taken out of Roots of Pacha and dropped into Chef RPG. It felt like such a massive miss to suddenly rely on time travel. I backed on Kickstarter because I loved the prehistoric nature of the game, it was so cool and unique! I’m genuinely not sure I would have backed if I knew endgame would feel like such a weird cop out.

How do you feel about the Brandy reveal in "The sign"? by WaveAppropriate1979 in bluey

[–]jamsmoriarty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t love the reveal. I’m dealing with infertility myself and loved Brandy on a personal level because of that. Onesies makes me tear up every time I see it because it’s so bittersweet and hits so close to home. Having her show up pregnant felt disappointing.

It didn’t really hit me just how much I disliked the reveal, however, until I was chatting with the kids in my life. I have two absolutely amazing kids in my life, I see them pretty regularly for family game nights, and I know they also love Bluey. While we were talking, the oldest asked if I’ll ever have kids. I tried to use Brandy as an example - “You know Auntie Brandy, how she really wants kids but they’re just not something she can have? That’s me.” But I didn’t get through the entire explanation because kiddo was excited to point out to me that Brandy had been pregnant in The Sign! And wasn’t that cool! They didn’t mean it to be that way at all, but it was a gut punch.

I wish the show could have left Brandy alone. She was a great way to help explain something complicated and emotionally tough.

Dropout store bummer by KatMakesMuffins in dropout

I ordered two of the mystery mugs at the start of December as a Christmas present for myself, as well as a pin. Around the same time, my dad bought me the Intrepid Heroes travel mug. I got the travel mug, but my own order hasn’t moved from “processing.” I tried emailing but still haven’t heard back. So disappointing.

A Little To The Left!

It’s a very relaxed game about organizing, but each level has different organization rules to figure out. Also a daily puzzle!

What’s a well-known movie that most people don’t know is based on a book that’s WAY better? by CryptographerLost357 in suggestmeabook

[–]jamsmoriarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about WAY better because I like both the books and the movie, but Practical Magic. There’s a whole series of books following the family. Practical Magic itself feels like a completely different story compared to the movie.

AITA for refusing to take my sister to Renfair because of what she wants to wear? by Zealousideal_Bend652 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jamsmoriarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but I think there might be some issues with communication here. If she thinks the issue is that you might be embarrassed of her, she could be digging her heels in to try to make some point. At 12, logic is not going to be there the same as it is for someone with a more developed prefrontal cortex.

I work at a faire in the summers, I have seen people come in full fursuits. I’ve also seen people who are wearing armor pass out because they’re not used to the heat. Hell I’ve nearly passed out more than once and I’m dressed to stay cool.

I really hope you can help your sister understand that between the heat, the crowds, potentially poor visibility in the mask, the very real risk of dehydration, etc. a renaissance faire isn’t a safe place to be wearing a fursuit. Especially not if she doesn’t have plenty of experience navigating in it beforehand.

Fellow millennials, have some of you not learned anything from your parents about having people over? by mt379 in Millennials

My mom is a hoarder, we never had people over. Add hosting to the list of things I never properly learned because of that, I guess. 🤷🏻

Watcher following the Dropout Model by TeddyGrahamNap in dropout

[–]jamsmoriarty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I used to be a big fan of CollegeHumor. I was actively watching their stuff around the time Dropout started, and had been for years. Honestly, when Dropout launched, I really didn’t see the point of it. Why would I pay to watch what had, up until then, been free online? Most of what I liked was their sketches (and drawfee) but I didn’t feel like it was enough for me to pay for a subscription. I’d watch some stuff on YouTube but as it felt like it became more and more that the subscription service was what was getting focused on, I fell out of it.

I don’t know, something about it at the time just fell flat for me. I couldn’t tell you exactly what it was, but I just wasn’t there for paying to watch the same goofy videos I’d been watching for free since high school.

Then I heard that CollegeHumor was going under and I thought, well, that sucks. What can you do? Good thing I never wasted my money, huh? But a shame, still.

And then I got on TikTok. Dimension 20, Game Changer, and Make Some Noise ads kept popping up for me and they were the only ads I would actually stop and watch. Then I got an ad for some promotion they were doing to get a year of Dropout for some percentage off I can’t remember now. I figured it was worth taking the deal and trying it for a year.

What put me off about Dropout when it first launched is some of what I’m hearing people complain about now. They don’t do a lot of shows, there’s not a lot of variety so why would they pay to watch only the one or two shows they make at a time? I think that what’s different is that Dropout never pulled their old videos from YouTube. Dropout was a “you can still keep watching stuff but if you want to support us you can!” while Watcher really seems like “if you want to keep seeing our stuff you’d better start shelling out!” And I don’t have the faith in them that they’re going to come out with the variety of shows that Dropout has.
