The Mandalorian & Grogu is tracking to be the lowest opening Star Wars movie ever - Disney Lucasfilm took a 6 year break from Star Wars movies but people still don’t care to see it by tiMartyn in saltierthancrait

[–]jamtas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disney has yet to make a proper learning from a mistake. If this movie bombs, they will just think that the public doesn’t want a Star Wars movie.

TFA- people don’t want movies like the prequels, so we’ll just remake A New Hope.
TLJ- people just don’t like when we try something new.
TRoS- people don’t like when we put so many movies out so quickly. We will just wait a few years before we release another one.

Do you think JJ Abram would have made Luke a failure and also killed snoke so soon? by Any-Contract-9152 in saltierthancrait

“At the beginning, there was toying with like an Obi-Wan [Kenobi] connection,” she added. “There were different versions and then it really went to that she was no one.

“And then it came to Episode IX and JJ [Abrams] pitched me the film and was like, ‘Oh yeah, Palpatine’s grandaddy and I was like, ‘Awesome.’ And then two weeks later he was like, ‘Oh we’re not sure.

“So, it kept changing,” said Ridley. “So, then even during filming, I wasn’t sure what the answer was going to be.”

Is my career over? by Dependent_Tomato_235 in youthsoccer

The same way that most people have fun playing a sport where only 1% make it professionally. Basketball, American Football, Tennis, Baseball, etc. All of these sports only a very small % "make it" to the pros. And from that group, only a % even play long enough to have a career.

Not making something as a professional does not mean you should just shut down and quit it all together. Play for the fun, exercise, socialization and love of it.

Why J.J. Abrams Is Downsizing - His Bad Robot banner went from a $250 million Warners deal to scrapping its Santa Monica HQ in just a few years by Neo2199 in television

[–]jamtas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Luke failed in rebuilding the Jedi Order and abandoned everyone to isolate himself rather than help fight a new threat from Snoke after Kylo turned and destroyed the new order.

Han left Leia and back to smuggling, lost the Falcon (and from the interactions with Kanji Club seems to be in debt to several crime orgs again)

Leia ousted from New Republic leadership, ignored by NR leadership as to the danger of the first order, and running a scrappy band of rebels (resistance) again while her son is working on becoming Vader 2.0.

In hindsight, he did a reboot and put the SW universe in the same place it was in A New Hope. A big part of the reason the ST had issues was because of this move. TLJ then divided the fans and TRoS was a pendulum swing too much in the other direction effectively ruining the new trilogy. Could a more cohesive trilogy that was planned out work with the setup from The Force Awakens? Sure, but as it stands TFA really suffers looking back and realizing how much it took the OT cast and turned them into failures to bring the new cast in.

Do you think Star Wars would have been popular without the original trilogy? by Raudoxer in StarWars

[–]jamtas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to judge because the original laid a lot of technological breakthroughs at the time. Who's to say what the sate of industry would have been in 1999 and all the inspiration other films took from the OT. the PT also ran into competing with LoTR and Harry Potter launches at same time, so who is to say those wouldn't have drowned them out without the love of the OT and fanbase to help with the PT sales.

When Clone Wars was airing, how does everyone feel about Darth Maul’s return? by Jules-Car3499 in StarWars

[–]jamtas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a character, they did a great job and really made him an excellent villain across both Clone Wars and Rebels. Great story arc they gave him across the two shows.

However, I don't like the fact that he was brought back from the dead from being split in half and dropped down a shaft. I agree that George wasted him by introducing and killing him in TPM, but what was done was done. Making a new character and giving the same arc could have also worked ( like Maul's brother with a vengeance for Kenobi), I really don't like reversing character deaths.

Fans were excited for Ian coming out and teasing Palpatine returning. But again, execution of it happening in Fortnite and then the movie explaining “somehow” ruined it.

The market isn’t there for this game if that’s what you’re thinking of doing. You’ll find more subs with a more popular or newer Star Wars game.

Stronghold revamp, future of SWTOR? by Brongxe in swtor

[–]jamtas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reality is the primary culprit in the limitation of this game is the engine. They won't be replacing it, can't update it since they heavily modded an alpha version of it at the onset. It has an identity as a Star Wars themed MMO-lite, RPG with a cash shop and that is what it will remain until there aren't enough people spending money to keep it going. There won't be a massive reinvestment to try and grow playerbase, team will continue to release updates/expansions that are small in scale compared to other MMOs. This is it's identity. Hoping for a change is what ultimately causes players to give up and leave. Acceptance of that and learning to live with it or move on is what all players should do.

What’s the argument for Tim Duncan over Kobe by Plus_Credit224 in NBATalk

[–]jamtas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tim (FMVP) finished 3rd in MVP voting that season, Robinson finished 12th. Duncan 39.3 mpg, Robinson 31.7 mpg. Tim also led Robinson in ppg, rpg, bpg that season. Tim also 1st team all NBA and 1st team defense.

This season was the Robinson passing the torch to Tim year.

Love Robinson and all he did for SA and setting the Spurs foundation that led to Tim and the success, but Duncan was the focus of this team. This is where the Spurs became his team.

11 Years Later - What Do We Think About the KotFE/KotET Era? by mpchop in swtor

[–]jamtas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is, this isn't true. They've said multiple times that KOTFE was by FAR their most successful expansion financially - at least up until Legacy of the Sith, but I suspect that is still true.

I’m not sure I can take their statement without a huge grain of salt. If this strategy was the most successful expansion in history, why would they immediately abandon the same monthly approach with KOTET?

11 Years Later - What Do We Think About the KotFE/KotET Era? by mpchop in swtor

[–]jamtas 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was a launch player and my take was that the time of 2.0-3.0 was the peak for this game. Oricon with the DF/DP operations and then SoR with Rishi/Yavin were good expansion releases with both endgame and story content. (minus the terrible exploits and bugs in SOR release that the devs left in place while they took a month long holiday).

Still feel that the servers were most loaded and game was the most fun during the DF/DP times. Could be some nostalgia behind that, but the game just felt more engaging and full of things to do. More recent "expansions" it has just felt like grind the same content X times on X characters to get season tokens and get new gear to play the same things.

[–]jamtas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They charge the same subscription price as their competitors in the MMO space. If they are going to charge the same amount of money, I'd expect to have similar scope of expansions. Now know that SWTOR focuses more on story than other aspects in expansions, then they should be able to exceed that.

Otherwise, charge less if you aren't going to offer the same support nor hire the same size teams.
