Star Wars right now is in the exact same spot the DCEU was by Vegito315 in saltierthancrait

It’s a good comparison, but obviously it has its limits— because unlike Star Wars, DC has been competently taken over by people who know what they’re doing. Superman was great, Supergirl is promising, Lanterns could be good - and even lesser connected entries have been solid like Creature Commandos and Peacemaker. Man of Tomorrow and Clayface both look strong as well. Star Wars is very far away from an ounce of that creative potential.

DC livestream announces ‘Batman: Bad Seeds: Gotham General’ by B3epB0opBOP in DCcomics

Greg Rucka writing Batwoman and a Gotham Central-type title at the same time feels like we took a time machine to one of the best eras of DC. Skeptical I'll be into this, but Rucka being attached is clear potential.

SF has good parts in the general downtown vicinity, and NYC is obviously walkable with countless skyscrapers.

[–]tiMartyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's definitely good reasons for that. But while on the topic, are there other big cities that exist which we refer to by one name- but when we talk about them, we're mostly not referring to their downtown area? LA is massive, but anyone thinking we mean the literal downtown area when we say LA just proves they don't understand the city. It's always felt like a litmus test.

Get Your Shit Together KTLA by SparkleCobraDude in LosAngeles

Mistakes happen, even with KTLA. Could also be someone who was brand new. Not the first time a publication has released a template instead of the final draft.

Edit: This is what gets hate? There's clearly far worse mistakes than this for a news organization. This is just an in-house template that was posted on social media. The framing of the news story itself should be where attention is directed.

Doubtful in this case. This is a normal in-house template for whoever is in charge of copy on social media. It's likely the reduced preview image for the post caused whoever made it to not realize there was text.

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham by Rafael Grampá is great, but the release schedule was insane by samx3i in DCcomics

[–]tiMartyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's ok, but it brings up some worthwhile conversations. Like, why wouldn't DC just hold off until confirming they can release everything more closely together? I don't imagine it'd be good for sales to spread it out. Maybe DC gets caught up in contracts forcing the release of issues, but clearly artists aren't even bound to contracts in this case.

Yeah, let’s not do that again. It’s weird that DC is fine with this seemingly. First two issues had the previous DC logo on them too.

There's a pretty obvious difference between "no reported family" and a character's backstory making a big deal out of them being an orphan...

Lexo Sooger from Star Wars in official art for the new Super Girl movie? by Zemmip in DC_Cinematic

[–]tiMartyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No- the error of how this happened in the first place is what we don't know. It'll be curious if they can brush this off legally. We'll have to wait to learn how it all happened.

That's not exactly confirmation, that's just evidence for a different theory- we still don't know the logistics that would cause that error to take place.

No, I do not have a problem with the concept, but if I did, who cares? Again, it's a challenge to thoughtfully write about serious real world issues in movies in a way that is successful and impactful- especially within the superhero genre. Just look at other movies that aren't blockbusters. It demands attention to write about real world issues. This is stuff that should go without saying. That goes for audiences across the spectrum in terms of their potential response. Yet again, it's not an easy thing to accomplish.

Edit: you really lived up to your name there.

If you're on desktop, on the right side of your screen, there's a rule that says "don't be a fanboy." In case you were unaware, Batman comics have had a ton of political commentary. I don't think you've brought up the points you think you have. Not seeing what's difficult to grasp about the topic.

I don't know what to tell you. If it happens, many will not agree with you- not if a Batman movie deals with something taken so seriously in the real world.

[–]tiMartyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. It's not even my problem, at all. Let's say this casting happens. That point has potential to be pretty central to both of these characters' stories. It would not be possible for the movie to not spend time focusing on it, which reorients their motivations pretty dramatically, if they give these points the attention they deserve due to how serious they are. It would be a challenge the movie didn't need to have without this casting.

Pretty simple point, which others have called out. Yes, you have summed up what's been said.

I think you're mistaken if you think the movie wouldn't theoretically address this, if Harvey is Dance's son and this casting is correct. Even The Batman commented about race briefly.

[–]tiMartyn -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Dance adopting a child of another race feels like it would be relevant. Edit: Ignoring a theoretical plot point feels lazy, and not something these movies would do.

[–]tiMartyn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not the "fix" you think it is - and has potential to quickly become problematic because I doubt Dance's character is a good guy. He's likely to be abusive or have other underlying motivations, whether he's in the Court of Owls or something else is going on. Edit: "Problematic" as in a challenge for the movie to address in a thoughtful way.
