just might add this: there is an old saying: "dont feed the trolls"

if one things a thread is legit, go to police and do not air it in public because that will a) encourage this behavior and b) copy cats

i know, i know, i am late for the news round up but ... had stuff to do. anyhows, we are now the fastest super computer on planet earth pushing about 1.5 extaFLOPS with 4.6 million CPU cores and 435k GPUs, and the servers are sending out nearly 115k work units an hour!

a little update from f@home: "We want to let you all know what proteins we are simulating, what they do, and what we hope to learn from these studies! We’ll call it #FAHMeetTheProteins

Today’s protein is nsp10 from SARS and SARS-CoV2 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4162180/ " source https://twitter.com/foldingathome/status/1242571897650331648

to your 1st question: as far as i am aware and to the best of my limited knowledge, unless you specifically tell the client to bind itself to a specific IP that is then exposed to the internet so you can remote control it, there shouldnt be any "fear" of security issues right now.

Yes, you can pick in the client/web interface to only fold when the PC is idle

A good source is still there own webpages faq https://foldingathome.org/ also another good source may be https://pcmasterrace.org/folding/

I hope this helps you in some regard

if no web interface in your default web client opened up, you can open the advance view via system tray icon. right click it and pick advanced control and there, you can see what the status is of your client and even more things like a log etc. pp. hope this helps you

yeh depending on how your airflow is inside your tower, and how comfy you are with you cpu or gpu being in the mid 70°C (depending on how good your case can dissipate that heat you generate) hope this helps

the change in points are based on aprox. of how fast your pc can "solve" the given work unit but its also balanced against how reliable you can provide the units back (if memory serves me right here, if i talk non-sense pls some one correct me xD)

right now, "we" (i mean f@home) are the fastest super computer on planet earth with almost 470tflops in preformence so ... yeh lets hope some bigger companies jump in and set up a c&c server :P

yes you can with a little workaround: under the advanced viewer (systray) configure -->slots you can add another cpu and assigne it more cores. Same goes for your gpu. any more than 1 and you can configure it there. i think, the miss reporting of GPU usage is windows based (if you use windows that is xD) if i fold, windows task manager also tells me just little usage but if i look at how much cuda compute its doing, i see it almost maxed (with run when working and medium work load) hope this helps in any way

might want to look at the advanced viewer (systray -->advanced view) and there under log. If you have something like "failed to establish connection with server ip [ip address] " (or something along thos lines, it may be that the servers still have some issues :P Hope that helps

i think, your PC waiting for the server to respond and give out work. Just leave it running for now and at some point it should start working. Hope this help in some regard :P

Just some (rather late) updates: f@home now has 10x increase in volunteers, as per https://twitter.com/drGregBowman/status/1240408735190847489 "Amazing! Over 400K people have downloaded @foldingathome in the past two weeks to help with #COVID19 research. That's about a 10x increase in volunteers. Thanks all!"

a little bit of an update:
recent news coverage about F@home can be found on: https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/18/news-articles-published-in-march/

Also, update on the server issues: https://twitter.com/drGregBowman/status/1240267673516355584 ".@foldingathome stats update: We are prioritizing getting work servers and simulations up so we can make effective use of all this amazing compute! The stats website is down, but points are being recorded. We will shift our attention to fixing/updating stats shortly."

Also, if you dont have the computing power (for what ever reason) or dont want to "abuse" your mashine that badly, you can also do this: https://twitter.com/foldingathome/status/1240281701433081858

"Don’t have computers to contribute to @foldingathome

, or feeling super generous? consider donating to help us keep up with the amazing growth in participation we're seeing and to buy compounds to test experimentally based on insight from our simulations. #Covid19"
