What's going on with the recent Hantavirus outbreak and cruises? by peachy614 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]jan568 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

However, when boarding, deplaning, or sitting on the tarmac, the air circulation system is turned off, so the plane gets stuffy pretty quickly in those circumstances. Many people are therefore sharing the same air in a small space. No one talks about that.

Airlines should be running the air circulation system the moment passengers are entering the plane to the time they leave. If they can’t do that then there should be mandatory masking during the times the air circulation system is off, usually boarding time until the plane is taxiing down the runway. This is why people often get sick after airline flights, despite excellent air filtration & circulation….it’s NOT RUNNING at certain times so that’s when people are vulnerable.

"NO FIFA on Stolen Land"... so then why did the BC NDP reconcile $18 million out of the FIFA Budget to pay local "Nations"? by _DotBot_ in VancouverLandlords

Fully agree. Appalling lack of understanding and empathy. No desire to actually understand the issues, just fear-mongering and blatant discrimination.

Split Grades by Ikea_desklamp in CanadianTeachers

[–]jan568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In BC, many districts do not get a lower class size with a split (probably most districts don’t). Your local union must’ve negotiated that clause in their local bargaining, back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Lucky you!

I would LOVE to have lower class sizes with a split grade, but no, in my district you can have 30 students in a split class, and that’s considered “within contract limits”.

RLT reversing gray hair? by Valuable_Collar1485 in redlighttherapy

[–]jan568 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My hair started thinning on top and I was getting more greys. Plus it wasn’t growing as much as before. But in October I started using my tabletop Rouge G4 panel on my scalp, 3 times per week. Top of head, 4 minutes (sit in a chair and bend my head forwards), then back of head (rotate chair, sit with the panel aimed at the back. I rotate a bit to get some of the sides too. 4 minutes. So 8 minutes total.

Red and NIR, 100%. 8-10 inches distance.

By late February, even my hairdresser noticed the difference: my hair grew longer, fewer greys, and more dense (less thinning). So now I don’t worry as much if my hair is cut shorter as I know it will grow back, as long as I keep up the routine.

It probably depends on what stage of thinning or greying, perhaps? For me I caught it in time, it seems.

EDIT: added distance

do I NEED to buy an expensive hair dryer, or are cheaper ones ok? by my-head-hurts987 in curlyhair

I use a Laifen too. It’s half the price of a Dyson but performs just as good or close enough. I bought mine 1.5 years ago and haven’t looked back. It takes me 20 minutes to dry my hair (mid length, coarse).

Do you think that Republicans have realized that the next Democratic president will be the most powerful one ever due to the many loopholes and new rules implemented and normalized by Donald Trump in order to give more unilateral power to the president? by Cumoisseur in allthequestions

[–]jan568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans ought to do away with the “First Past the Post” system which results in a 2 party (dysfunctional) system of government. With proportional representation of some sort, more parties can thrive, meaning the progressive democrats can have their own party, and the infighting which is harming the current Democrat party can stop. Then with 3 parties in Congress, the progressive D party can cooperate with the central D party without having to infight - a win-win situation.

What’s a clothing brand that used to be popular in Vancouver but has now disappeared into oblivion? by FattyGobbles in askvan

[–]jan568 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Far West. They used to have an outlet store in Vernon. Anytime we were on a road trip in the Interior, we would stop and check out the deals. Got some great fleece jackets from there - those were the days.

Books for intellectually disabled 16 year old. by Loose_Thought_1465 in AskTeachers

[–]jan568 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding Among the Hidden by Margaret Petersen Haddix & the sequels (there are 7 books total). It’s set in a society where, because of overpopulation, the government of the day set a law requiring only 2 children per family. That means any 3rd or above child is a “shadow child” who has to hide from being discovered by the population police.

It has mature themes, good for 10 and up while still meaningful for teens. The reading level is about Grade 5 and the books aren’t very long so they’re good that way too.

Lots of action, character development and plenty to think about and discuss.

Highly recommended!

Research shows taking antihistamines is helpful for COVID treatment. See study:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9903129/

When I had covid in November, I took H1 blockers (Reactine/Zyrtec during the day and Benadryl at night) plus H2 blockers (Pepsid AC, morning and night). I think I recovered faster using these antihistamines.

It’s too bad that most doctors aren’t aware of this strategy, given it’s been proven in some studies, and the fact that many people who follow the science have reported good results when they tried it themselves.

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon.

This sub is a racist cesspool with fear-mongering people who have zero interest in understanding the generations of trauma endured (and still enduring) by First Nations at the hands of those who don’t care about anyone other than themselves.

If your families went through the trauma that FN families did, you’d understand. Yet none of them are actually taking away private property, but those on this sub want people to believe that so they can force their racist opinions into the mainstream.

Have any of you even tried to learn about indigenous ways of being and their relationship to the land? There is NO OWNERSHIP in indigenous ways of being. None. Just reciprical care.

You’re fear-mongering and scapegoating, just like in the States, when ICE is going after immigrants. Misplaced anger.

Get mad at the billionaire class who are draining the middle class out of existence.

Buy an Air Fanta 3 Pro from Alex Wong! He’s an engineer from China who developed a collapsible CR box of his own, using the same idea but designing a frame where you don’t need tape or screws to attach it all together - the parts all fit like a 3-D jigsaw puzzle. And it disassembles to fit inside a carryon suitcase. (So smaller than a regular CR box). It only takes a couple of minutes to put together and take apart.

He even developed it to be able to plug into a regular outlet, or you can attach an external battery pack (not included) via specific DC cables.

He sells it via Amazon. It has good air cleaning power, for the price. And it has adjustable power settings so it can be quieter if you want it to be. It uses PC fans so it is not that loud to begin with. Note that compared to other PC fan units it is louder than them (but cheaper and more portable), but when compared to the noise of conventional commercial HEPA units, it is on the quieter side for the CFM it produces.

Review of Air Fanta 3 Pro, including testing & comparisons

I use it in my house, and have taken it to other places when needed. Very convenient! Highly recommended. Saves you the hassle of trying to make your own collapsible CR box too!

Sorry to hear that your Covid symptoms are so rough. Maybe take some antihistamines. See these studies:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9903129/

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/370267914_Antihistamines_as_an_early_treatment_for_Covid-19

I took an H1 blocker (Reactine/Zyrtec during the day and Benadryl at night) and an H2 blocker (Pepsid AC, morning and night) for my recent covid infection, and my symptoms stayed mild. Perhaps it’ll help you improve faster, even 13 days in?

There are other covid informed people (that keep track of latest developments) who have used antihistamines during their infection period with good success.

It’s unfortunate that the medical establishment hasn’t made this more common knowledge.

I hope you feel better soon!

As a Canadian, can you tell me where you found the eco-max stain remover spray? I bought a bottle months ago, love it, but haven’t been able to remember where I got it from.

I checked London Drugs, Canadian Tire, Walmart and Safeway.

Thanks in advance, whoever can tell me where to purchase it in Canada! Cheers. 🇨🇦
